Default Cab Hardtop front adjustment

Hello all,

I have developed a severe rattle in the hardtop, passenger side, where it mounds to the windshield frame. I can move the top up and down about an 1/8th of an inch, hence the rattle.

Does anyone know the procedure for adjusting the hardtop at this point? It may very well be that I have to replace the seals as they may have shrunk.

Thanks in advance!

Regards,

There is a plastic tab cover over the metal "hooks" at the far left and right side of the hardtop, where it engages with the windshield. Make sure the metal tabs have the plastic covers on them. Sometimes, they come off. I think you can get replacements...

edit:
Looks like you can see the part here (no affiliation)

Check the insert on the windshield where the top connects. There is a little plastic piece that pops off and gives access to the screws that hold the sun visor in place. This can loosen and product a rattle.

Most likely the plastic hook cover(s) is/are missing or broken. Don't over tighten the screws in the header where the center latch is. The captured "nuts" are some kind of brittle castings, brass? There are a couple threads on how to repair them when they break.

I have my hard top on right now but if I remember correctly, where the left and right side slots into the windscreen frame, there are alan type screws under the plastic cover which can come loose. Pop the little cover off and tighten the screws each side. I accidently found them as I was trying to solve an intermittent, hit and miss, opening and closing of the top. I found other things like the broken plastic part of the center hook and an arm had come loose at the rear of the hood. The top works fine every time now. It may not be the top at fault but the part where it slots into of the passenger side needs tightening up. Good luck. Let us know the result if you solve the problem.

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I will take a look at it when I get back from the office.

Is there an adjustment on the center latch to pull it tight to the windscreen?

I have exactly the same issue, front plastic lugs seems to be intact but makes a lot of knocking noise at low speed as we go over bumps etc.

Anyone know how to fix?
