Question 3:
Both my wife and I received a claim letter.
What would happen if I opt out and my wife opts in for the same car? Is the suit per person or per vehicle?
This is the same 2002 996 mentioned above.

With your 2002, If you haven't already 1) had an IMS failure that 2) resulted in engine damage and 3) you repaired the engine either wholly or partially at your own cost, the settlement has no benefit for you. Opt out if you like, but that will also be of essentially zero benefit.

Question 2:
What happens if you have a 2002 996 C2 where the engine was replaced in 2004?
The car was put into service in 2002 but the replacement engine was put into service in 2004.
Anyone have any idea how how the class action suit would rule in that case?
It's not clear!

FlashingBlade's questions
#1 - I have the same year and model of car. I discussed this situation with Stephen M. Harris, KP&C. He advised that I opt outfrom the program. Since I would not be bound by any final agreement I would be able to pursue my own suit or negotiations.
#2, #3 - I suggest you contact Mr. Harris.

Does "opting out" require submitting some paperwork??
Whoa whoa whoa. I am reading from many contributors to this forum about "opting out" under certain circumstances. I definitely fit those circumstances, HOWEVER, what constitutes "opting out?" (I have an 02 996 with no problems -- to date.)
If one does not file, is one automatically enrolled in the suit (i.e., one is automatically named in the suit??
Is there specific paperwork needed to opt out?
I think I would want it to be known that I have opted out, in case I run into problems in the near future.
Thanks -- I thought I understood it, but I now think I've missed something.

Having sold my 996 a few months ago I don't check this forum as much as I used to. Just thought I would see if there was any update on this? I tried searching via Google but couldn't find anything definitive.
