Default From Brake Shims

While replacing my front pads, I noticed there are no shims or dampers, just the pads with the cylindrical weights incorporated in the pad. Are there also some shims to add here, or just the pads with the weights ?

Thanks

The cylindrical weights are riveted onto a thin metal shim, which sticks on to the brake pad. There are no other seperate shims.

Thanks. These are added to the pads that already have the weights incorporated?

Oh sorry I misunderstood. You also need these weights http://www.suncoastparts.com/product...6BrakesCarrera

You need two per wheel.

Some ppl decided not to use these weights though.

Thanks. I've seen those in the catalogs and can't quite envision where they fit.

They fit right between the backing plate of the pad and the pistons in the calipers. Insert them onto the pistons, peel off the adhesive, then insert new pads and pad pin. When you apply brakes the first time, they will be adhered onto the pads for good.

When I replaced my brake pads I just separated the old shims from the old pads using a butter knife. They came off pretty easily. The new pads went right in and I guess the old shims stuck because I have no squealing.

Not sure what you mean by weights, the new pads are shaped just like the old ones with no need for weights or anything.

Weights are vibration damper I think. There was a separate metal shim on my front (Porsche/Textar) pads that fits in the caliper pistons. Sometimes those are removed and not reinstalled on previous brake job , or they stick in piston (like mine, but should just pop out) or they stick on old pads (if antisqueel was applied). I reused my old shims with antisqueel - and brakes are totally quiet. If you search this board - you'll see some don;t use them......
