Default Brake paint & refurb

Just completed my brake refurb that I started over the Christmas holiday.

I wanted to repaint my brakes as you can see the caliper lettering was faded away, and the discs were slightly corroded around the top hats and really showed up under my black wheels. I also wanted to strip them, clean and rebuild them.

First and best tip I got from this list was to depress the brake by around 1 inch, I cobbled together a T piece from wood I had lying around the workshop. After doing this and removing all the calipers I put zip lock bags around the brake lines and over a period of nearly 2 months to complete the work I lost only a tablespoon of fluid at best, great tip.

I stripped the brakes and marked up the sticker location, which was 25-26mm from the base of the caliper.

I took a day sanding and cleaning the calipers, I originally planned to duplicolor brush paint them, I know many have had success with this but I hated it, the finish was uneven and the color coverage was really bad, they looked awful after 4 hrs or work and 3 coats. I then sanded the bad area’s, wiped them down and decided to spray them with Duplicolor rattle cans, that is when disaster struck and the whole finish just crazed. Finally I bit the bullet and took then to a local powder coaters to be blasted and powder coated, they did all the masking and a terrific job, I should have spent the $200 at the beginning, saved myself 3 days work and at least $70 in crap paint.
Got the calipers back and they looked awesome, rebuilt them with all new dust seals, and replaced 2 pistons that had some marking, all the other pistons and seals were in perfect condition.
One challenge I had was pressing the dust seals in place, they just wouldn’t seat fully, I ended up buying some plastic pipe connections and used a G-clamp as shown to press them in fully.

I stenciled the Porsche logo on them, and fitted them this weekend.
Just need the weather to warm up to I can drive it next!!

Looks great....and thanks for sharing...I think I will probably do something similar in the future.

Can you describe the stenciling in a bit more detail?

Btw..the tip for preventing the fluid from running out is awesome

The "stencil" I used was a high temp decal I got on ebay. I would NOT recommend clear coating over top of the decal. My clearcoat yellowed a bit from heat build up.

FYI, the eBay seller I bought from was "euromotorspeed". The decals were about $10 for the set, and worked fine. http://r.ebay.com/SHMOJm

Cheers for the comments guys, I have to say that I am really getting ‘cabin fever’ not driving the car.
Regarding the stenciling I bought these off fleabay
http://www.ebay.com/itm/260031544075...84.m1439.l2649
They are cut vinyl, easy to apply and you just spray some VHT white paint for the logo, only tip is to apply lots of very thin coats as the paint can creep a little under the vinyl. Looks more similar to the OE process, I didn’t do any clear over the top.

Where did you find all of the piston seals and dust boots? I know the dealer has the boots, but do they have the seals as well?

Suncoast for the dust seals, I coulnt find anywhere that sells the piston seals alone, but you could buy piston/seal/dust boot kits. My seals & pistons were in great condition, so I just cleaned and rebuilt with the original piston seals and new dust seals.
