Unhappy Ugh--now the clutch

Well, I tempted Murphy with this post: https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...ml#post9977622 and now he's getting revenge.

Yesterday driving to work I first noticed the clutch takeup felt a little weird on an uphill start. Then the pedal got harder and the engagement got lower and lower and I limped in to work. I thought I might be able to drive it to the shop but when I restarted the clutch wouldn't disengage enough to get into any gear. So my second flatbed ride in three months.

They checked the hydraulics and everything was fine, so they're pulling it apart today. Definitely going to do Jake's IMS replacement while they're in there, anyway.

Exciting post. Could you please post some photos of the RR? Mileage? Other symptoms earlier?

It was a cracked pressure plate. 71k miles. The dual-mass flywheel is at the limit and needs to be replaced, too.

Good news though--the IMS seal was leaking along with the RMS, so fortunate timing to do all the work.

Sounds like a blessing in disguise that they all need replacement anyway and you're saving labor by doing all of them the same time

Was the leak observable externally or you found out only after the trans been removed?

Was the PP being severely over-heated or abused? What brand?

Where was the crack on the pressure plate?

Sorry, didn't take a photo. The fingers on one side of the failed PP were 1/4" or so lower than on the other side. Normal daily-driver use. No abuse.

However, my shop said that it looked like the clutch had been replaced before. There was a missing plastic spacer and spring clip and rtv sealant around the RMS seal.
