Porsche 996 - Iphone app for OBDII
I have bought the bluetooth OBDII connector Gopoint BT1
http://www.amazon.com/GoPoint-Techno.../dp/B0061XSX0O
And I have downloaded a couple of apps including:
DashCommand (useless)
https://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/dash...321293183?mt=8
Logworks (useless)
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/logw...351896392?mt=8
goPoint, the app from the maker of the obdii reader (the best so far and free)
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/gopo...458001202?mt=8
BUT none of them really gives the info I need
-> oil pressure
-> oil temperature
GoPoint is the one which shows the most info from our beloved 996 on board computer. The other product offer almost zero value added.
Did anyone manage to display the oil pressure and temp on an iphone app made for obdii reader ?

AFAIK, none of the OBDII adaptors (+ Android or Apple apps) can display oil pressure and oil temp. I know for sure Durametric can display at least oil temp if not oil pressure as well.

We already have an oil pressure gauge on the instrument panel. You don't trust that reading? I think the oil pressure reading is from the (often failing) oil pressure sensor anyway even if you had a way to read it via a scan tool?

it would be nice to be able to confirm that the gage is accurate. I am seeing fluctuating reading on the track, I wonder if the gage or the sensor are wrong.
My gage is acting fine on the street, but I am trying a couple things to narrow down my issue.
The oil temperature would be VERY nice to have, again to see if my oil pressure problem are linked to temperature. I can't believe porsche has that info on hand and doesn't offer it at least on the on board display... a shame my MkII doesn't have the same computer diagnostic trick as the MkI !

Not to hijack your thread, but does anyone use a decent OBDII cable (& software) for a standard laptop that's good and cheap? Doesn't need to be wireless.
I already have a Durametric for my 996. This would be for my other cars.

Tbred911,
MK1 has read outs via the climate control unit. I could not find the rennlist specific thread on this, but I have this saved in my favs.

I have not found any accuracy from OT and OP readings that are gathered through OBDII. In applications where its possible we only use the stock sensors when we can take the data from the CAN/BUS.
In back to back testing with high end stand alone instruments feeding gauges and feeding data loggers the deviations between the stand alone data and the IBDII data are unbelievable.

It could be available via an in use query using Mode 9 (service 9) or some other method, Porsche proprietary. I've seen a printout from my Boxster which shows oil temperature. (Pressure is not available as there is no oil pressure sensor per se. All there is a is a sensor that signals oil pressure is above a certain threshold.)
For some models that have an oil pressure gage the oil pressure info might be on the CAN bus. There is no query for this the CAN frames have be pulled off as they go by.

FWIW your oil pressure should be at 4bar when you are @ 3,000 rpm... so if your tracking keep an eye on this... this will tell you the oil pressure/temp relationship and when you need to back off...
if while your tracking you take a reading @ 3000 rpm and your very close to 3 bar take a few cool down laps - it does wonders for oil temps and bringing pressure back up.... or just come into the pits and cool down for 30 min or so... if you care about your motor...
if your below 3 bar @ 3000 rpm then your running WAY too hot... all this assumes you have a full crankcase of oil with "full bars"
