Lots of fuel pumps dying these days, this would be a good cause, maybe a new pump brings a performance boost!

Battery lead disconnected? Not likely but a quick check would be in order. Thats if all power went to the dash. Then into the ignition fix. Again a cheap DIY replacement fix wouldnt go amiss. You didn't say if all power had gone off the dash. Did you check if the lights were still working? If they are then gas filter then pump etc. Hope you sort things out.

The ignition switch is a known failure item on this generation of Porsche's. But when I've seen them fail it was in the can't start it context.
If Porsche diagnostics don't point to anything you might check the fuel filter and / or drain the tank (if something was floating around.
BUT - If you jump started the car and reversed the leads, you can damage the DME in such a way that it will work but fail under certain conditions. But I'm pretty sure that diagnostics would show this.

So, it was the fuel pump. There was no noise, no puddle of oil, and the engine cranked freely after quitting but didn't start, so I was fairly confident it wasn't IMSB. I was happy to get the call from the shop with the definitive fuel pump diagnosis.

Thanks! It was love at first sight... I wasn't even looking to replace my Boxster when I happened upon the dealer listing for my 996. It just oozes 911-ness, and I was powerless to resist.
