LN IMS Retrofit Kit longevity
i'm going to install...or rather Leith Porsche is going to install....the IMS retrofit kit...and the RMS and clutch.
How many miles have you folks that installed the kit, logged? i THINK i read somewhere, that i'm supoosed to replace it at 50K miles...is this right?
I KNOW he has a new kit coming out in Feb.(?) that is permanent....i want to hear from the IMS retrofit kit owners....thx!!

I upgraded to the LN IMSB when I rebuilt the engine, now have 14,K miles, & I don't expect to replace it ever. I believe they say to inspect or replace it just for liability reasons.

I think its the LNE Single Row bearing that they recommend to periodically replace. I've installed an LNE Dual Row at 150kms, probably preventatively replace it again at 300kms. cheap maintenance.

Single row equipped cars have a 50K rating for the bearing. That said, we have a ton of them out there with more miles on them than that and we've not had a single failure from the 290 that we have installed.
The IMS Solution omits the failure points of the ball bearing completely.

Any data on double rows?

Yes, single row only. The dual row retrofit bearings are so robust we are not going to produce a "solution" for them though we do have one already designed.
The single row cars are what we are concerned with.

Still needs to be replaced on a regular basis (IE, when in there, clutch, etc) I pulled a failed LN dual row bearing out of a motor a few months ago. It supposedly had 10k miles on it, but I don't know anything about who installed it....there was nothing obvious about the install that pointed to a specific reason for failure that I could see. I have not seen any issues with any of the LN bearings we have installed either.

Dual row cars (early 2000 and older) have dropped in value so much that they are seldom being retrofitted these days. The volume of dual row bearings has dropped significantly in the past year or so. The owners of these cars are installing my IMS Guardian as a low cost warning system.

I cannot imagine the stress of being the guy who is selling this kit and knowing people with minimal mechanical skills and seasoned Porsche techs alike are installing such an important part

How long should the triple bearing last :-) I've got 40K miles on mine.
I'm sure there aren't many of those out there.

Anyway, the triple row bearings have never suffered an issue. Every engine we have ever assembled has had one until the IMS Solution was applied.
I have multitudes of those engines with 70K+ miles on them with no issues.
