Default Uh oh the oil leak!

Got a couple Oil leaks that I just noticed, Wanted to know any thoughts before I clean the oil off and start the trace. Also anyone know where to get the strut that holds the engine bay open.

I got mine from Pelican Parts:

996-512-551-03-M624 $14.00 1 $14.00
Rear Engine Lid Shock, 996 (1999-2005), Brand: Tuff Support

Good luck finding the leak. Hope it is something cheap and easy.

Why don't you clean it, then it should be obvious? Wouldn't even know where to guess with that much.

Go to NAPA and get a small bottle of engine oil dye. Run through the engine after driving for a bit. Then get a black light and see where the oil "glows" at under the black light. This is how I chased mine and knew exactly that it was coming from the cam solenoid cover/seals.

It looks like your oilpan has a leak, but its hard to tell by your picture. It can be taken apart and seal easily. Other area to look at is the valve covers. If you are worried about the dreaded RMS remember there would be wet oil where the transmission and engine meet. Clean off the oil and reinspect. Yes the dye would work also. Good Luck

Pmuney, you didn't post where the oil leak was coming from. Have you had it fixed?

I am very interested in this topic because, by looking at your pics, it looks like the oil leak was on the vicinity of the intake pipe (left side while in front of engine) and throttle body.

I also have a lot of oily dirt on the same area (not as bad as yours on these pics) and would like to have a tip of where the oil was coming from.

Please post or pm me about this leak.

Thanks.
