Default Wheels/snow tire help

Hey Guys,
ordered a set of 265/35/18 blizzaks for the rear and 225/40/18 for the front.
tire shop wants me on 18x9.5 for rear and 18x8.5 front.
Is anyone running this tire size/wheel size combo?
Looked on tirerack and they say an 18x10 for the rear will work.
Help please as i watch the snow pile up outside....tomorrow will be daunting...

That should be fine, I believe 9.5 wide is the ideal width, but cant confirm without looking at my book. going with a 10 will stretch out the tire a little making the rear diameter slightly less that what the tire is rated for, I do it with all my rear tires.

sorry just checked optimal width is 9-10.5 inches the tread width is 9.5 inches which is why the tire shop probably said to go with a 9.5 wide wheel, so you will have a bit of width. you can stretch tires pretty far and this is not anywhere near the limits. I stretched a 195 tire on a 10 inch wheel for a vdub a while ago that was about a far as i was able to ever get a bead sat, though it isn't what I would call safe, and would never recommend it to anyone

Porsche recommends 18x10 rears and 18x8 fronts.

I run the 8&10 with 225/40/18 and 265/35/18 using Firestone Winterforce.

Narrower rims (17-in diameter, width of 7-in front, 8.5-in rear as Porsche recommends) would be more efficient in snow.
Anything wider would have more of a tendency to plow or float over snow rather than grip it or track it properly.
In winter conditions, you want more functionality even if appearance suffers. In the cold, nobody really cares enough to pay attention to appearance, except perhaps the self-conscious PCar owner.
This' the season for getting home safely.
My 2 Cdn cents worth! Cheers!

Porsche recommends 18x8 for the front and 18x10 for the rear on the C4S.

I have a 00 C2. Tires are Winter Dunlop,s!
I believe wheels are 996/Boxster 17-in.
Not sure if it would fit C4S but likely would.

hello eveyone,

here is what i was able to find. first, in the tires, rims, tracks section of my 03 c4s manual the recommended tire size, rim size, and rim offset. second is regarding the choice of n rated tires.

martin, as far as your 00 c2 - my manual (which is for 03 model) says you can use 17 rims.

i use 225/40 r 18 on 8 x 18 rims. rear is 265/35 r 18 on 11 (yes 11) x 18 rims. no problems with the rears.

hope this helps

Always run the narrowest wheel you can get away with during the winter. Otherwise you're sliding all over the place. High quality dedicated snow tires are the absolute way to go! (I have a set of Alpins for my other rear drive winter car and they never fail me!)
