argh this is all chinese to be guys

I hope one of you smart guys can figure it out .. So strange nobody has done it before.

Especially that we indeed have multiple place to tap for oil temps on this engine.

[Ahsai] Yes, pin1 goes to the DME 5.2 and pin3 is ground

2.- Sheet 12; Coordinate E118
---Notice the motor oil temperature goes into Pin 73 of the DME

[Ahsai] This is for DME 5.2 (MkI cars)

3.- Sheet 18; Coordinate L172
The motor oil temperature signal also goes to plug III (52 pins) of the Motronic/E-gas module.....to be specific....pin 5
[Ahsai] This is for DME 7.8 (MkII cars)

4.- What is not clear is if the DME sends the signal out to a GUI (may be the OBC or the AC panel display???)

--- One of the posts above shows a link to a place where someone was able to toggle the AC screen to show other data...perhaps oil temp is one of them...
[Ahsai] Pretty sure for MkII cars, the signal is not available as generic PIDs for OBDII. However, it's available from one of the K-lines where Durametric uses to connect to the DME7.8 and NO, I don't know how to get that info

It may be a temp, but I don't think it's oil: After warming up, coolant indicates 180 deg f., but 1c only shows 26, which would equal roughly 80 deg f.

It would appear that Ashai (sp?) has the best solution, aside from possibly using a phablet connected to a Durametric cable-if that would work..

If you’re looking for an analog style gauge rather than a digital readout, I took Ashai’s thread a step further. Works great, and appearance is close to the stock gauges. The PCB eliminates much of the soldering and the circuit is simplified to only work with the VDO gauge. Still takes some courage to splice into the DME harness and run wires up to the console, but for me was a fun project.

I use a Launch tech obd Bluetooth dongle and it can access all live data including oil temperature from the ECU

Are you sure about that? Because the 996 doesn't broadcast oil temp over the OBDII protocol like 997 does, it only broad cast oil temp over the Porsche specific protocol.

Cool, looks like it does use the Porsche protocol (instead of OBDII protocol only)and shows oil temp, although can't use a Torque App for gauge set-up, but at least it can show the oil temp and as much info as the Durametric or PIWIS, just not as many functions..

The only issue is that it's no longer made. I tried to find one and came up empty.

Yes ... I don’t think it is available. I ordered from eBay, launch tech China. Whatever that might be. And also strange user support. Launch tech referred met to the Chinese for a small issue I had.

Yes it is a pocket Durametric. Some functionality is missing. But perfect for monitoring values. Worth the 90$ I paid for it.
