Default Help identifying oil leak

Looks like a sensor (temp, Cam?) located over and behind rear most plug coil on passenger side. 99/996 C2. Casing next to it has the variocam insignia.

Can it be replaced without draining the oil? doesnt look difficult to replace.

That is the vario cam adjuster, you cannot replace it without taking the cam cover and cams out, You can replace the seal around it by un pluging it and removing the 2 10 mm screws. But the adjuster if its leaking is problay beyond the scope of your average diy guy.

Clean up the area and then keep an eye on it to see where the leak is. If it is the seal around the cap it is easy to replace. It could also be from the connection above this ara where a breather hose from the AOS connects to the 4-6 head.

Here is what you need. You should be sure that the leak is coming from the seal here first before you just go ahead and reaplace. I have done both of mine. Very easy job. Just be careful not to damage the seal when putting it back in place and be sure to get everything very clean.

Thanks all. It appears to be the only source of 'clean' oil flow, the rest looks like accumulation. I'll clean it up and watch it. Its counterpart on the other side is dry.
