Tell him Nick referred you - I told him before I left to pennsylvania that I will tell all i know about him cause I like him so much - so please tell him so he knows

and no, i do NOT get any kickbacks/finders fee/etc from him. I just think he's a really honest guy and deserves as much business as possible.

You can try rhytm and speed on 1934 cotner ave Santa Monica. Owner&Mechanic Esfand, knows Porsche pretty well. If you happen to stop by ,you will see at least 3-4 996 Turbo/GT2s in his shop. Dont forget to tell, you got his contact from Bugra.

Default I am looking too, any reviews?

Hi, I have been looking as well. What are anyone's opinions of these mechanics for a 996? Good and bad please in relation to a 996. I would be willing to pay a bit more for someone that has good intuition of 996 problems and looks at the overall problems/codes from the past to come to educated conclusions.

Otto (John Williamson)
Redline (Marc Bixen)
Precision Tech (Alex Wong)
Callas Rennsport (Tony Callas)
Euro Spec Motoring (Jeff Haugland)
Dutch Treat (Robert Wessels)
Or ?

Useful list, thanks

I dropped in on Ottos Venice regarding a PPI earlier today, chatted to one of the techs, very helpful and actually has me reconsidering the 88 Carrera Coupe in favor of a 996

Otto's has been taking care of my 84 Carrera Coupe since I bought it in 1996. Great shop but over communicate about what work you actually want done if you are on a budget - he likes to make everything 'perfect' whenever he gets his hands on a car. Or let him if you have the budget He has never done work that didn't need doing - to be clear.

i will also say that Tony at callas rennsport is top notch. a perfectionist. its just too far from me for regular service a lot of the time. but i try to have my car in his hands once a year.

Hi, I have experience with Ottos and Callas. I highly recommend Callas but would not refer anyone to Otto's......

Pasadena is too far, especially if there's traffic and you have an engine light blinking.
I've seen and heard some negs of ottos that is making me put him lower on the list.
It seems callas is getting the votes. I wish it were a bit closer.
Are there any opinions on precision tech? I think he used to work for ottos. This would be a closer option for me if not ottos.

Another place in North Hollywood is TLG Auto Service. Nice guys and I've heard good things from other folk.

EcurieEcosse,

In speaking with Ottos, what were the things that were mentioned that have you considering a 996 over the air cooled 911? Just curious as to what they had to say...

I had a PPI done a Ottos, and they missed a few items when I brought my car back to my mechanic. I dont think I will use them again

I would also endorse Peter and his wife at Stuttcar Service. He did an extremely thorough PPI, compression/leakdown for me for a fair price. He was very detail oriented and saved me from getting involved with a lemon. This was all particularly helpful as I was looking at a car in LA but live in Chicago. http://www.stuttcarservice.com/
