Default HELP! Location of emergency trunk release!

Hi everyone,
my friend has a 2001 996 Turbo. His trunk is locked without battery inside (took the battery out). He tried the "fuse box" method, which was clamping positive side to the "trunk symbol" inside the fuse box and the negative side to the door metal. Which didn't work! I believe the reason was that the battery is not even inside.

Now, I would like to ask if anyone knows the exact location of the emergency trunk release? I've did some research, some said its at the left wheel well, some say it's at the right side. Therefore I would like to confirm if anyone has done it successfully.

Thanks very much!!

There's cable you can pull, it's behind the passage side front wheel.

Try a jump pack from the terminals in the engine compartment.

it is a thin silver wire rope in front of the passenger front wheel under the inner fender liner. Sometimes you can snap out the side marker light and see it. There is a loop on the end that you might be able to catch with a bent coat hanger through the side marker hole. Otherwise take the right wheel off and remove the liner to access it.

just curious you did try the trunk release while the jumper was hooked to the fusebox access and the door striker

I used the fuse box method with my '04, but it only responded when I tried the remote. It did not work with the switch by the driver's seat

Hmmm, on my 2001 C2 Cab the release cable is actually attached to a small holder built into the upper part of the wheel liner that is in the door jam area. Very easy to get to... just open the passenger door and look inside the fender area and you should see the pull ring at the top.

I used the fuse box jump method with that battery out and it worked fine, maybe the jump battery is flat?

I fished mine out (i.e. cable) from the wheel well compartment passengers side. Took the wheel off and the wheel well lining to get a better look-see. Needed a coat hanger bent with a hook on the end with a lot of patience. Hind sight being 20/20 would have removed the light assembly also.
Once located added an additional 18" of wire to the end and tucked it up for accessibility should the condition occur again.
