Tires
I ordered mine yesterday thinking I will get the 60$ rebate like the website said. I work and live in US and thats where the tires are going but my VISA is registered in Canada. So my discount won't be coming. Very dissapointed as there was no mention that the coupon only applies to people who have a Credit Card with primary address in US. I tried canceling, so I could temporarly change my address but the tires shipped . Not happy with Tire Rack.

I am on my third set and they are great. I will try the Yokohama next just to see the difference. I also had great service from Damon at Tire Rack!!

Sumi's are the first set of tires I have had on my 911, so I dont have any comparisions to make, so far so good, only comments I would make are:
1. They dont feel great the first few hundred miles, which suprised me I expected the bed in to be quicker.
2. They flatspot pretty bad, first 5 miles each morning feels like the car had badly out of balance wheels, once warmed up they are fine.
As I dont have any comparison, do all tires on a 911 flatspot so much?, I have to say it is beginning to bug me each morning.

I had a chance to drive the sumi 3's this weekend at the track since it rained all day. (im ususally on nt-01s in dry conditions) I am extra careful in the rain but I gradually picked up the pace. They did a good job and kept me from aquaplaning everywhere except where there was deep standing water where I got a bit of a push but never completely broke traction. I always hear guys saying they enjoy driving in the rain as it helps you fine tune car control etc. and I agree to a certain point. Its still nerve racking if the runoff areas have concrete barriers.
Im not sure I can say I enjoy a rainy track day... but I did feel myself focusing more on being ultra smooth on throttle, brakes and heel/toe downshifts. All in all the Sumis provided a relatively safe ride in horrible conditions. I think they are a good buy now and since I spend $ for r comps im always looking to save $ on street tires.

Hard to imagine you would see a wheel weight reduction going from 17s to 18s. the 18 inch wheels are not only larger in circumference, they are wider. More metal weighs more and Porsche stock wheels are very light for cast wheels. If you are moving to a forged wheel you might not gain any weight, but you won't lose any either.
18 inch tires are the same trade off, they will have shorter sidewalls but a wider tread - about the same amount of material overall. Unless the 18s are motorsport or racing tires, they will be about the same weight as 17s.
There are lots of advantages to mounting taller/wider wheels and tires, but weight reduction is not likely one of them.
