LOL -- Did I get your attention? So, wondering if anyone else has an issue pumping gas. At about 1/2 tank or maybe 3/4 the pump cuts off. Then I have to "tap" the handle to get to a full tank. Anyone else have this issue where the pump sensor cuts off early? What's going on?

Put this in the "search this forum" box at the top of the 996 forum page.
"gas tank fill"
Read as many of the 6 pages of threads as it takes until you get to a reason/method that satisfies your curiosity.

Yes, I will try that...most like tomorrow when I burn through a tank. :-) I read on other forums that there is a simple plastic adapter that can be installed to remedy the situation. Will try 180 degree pump first. Thanks all!

Sheeze the gauge will read 3/4 to full when the tank is full. Don't be topping the tank off having the gas up in the tanks filler neck. There's a tube that goes to a carbon filter or such canister that throws a check engine light if you start filling it too much all the time or drive hard throwing the gas around when near full. Getting gas in there causes a valve to shut which the durametric will refer to in the cause of the CEL.
You can have the dealer redo your gauges sensor in the tank for a small hehehehe fee. Maybe a new tank would be cheaper. I'll have to price that idea. Lots of people see less than full when filling up.

Jamie mine does the same thing. To fix the issue I put the pump in the normal way until it shuts off. Then I flip the pump over 180 degrees, start pumping again and hold it there until it shuts off. No need to top off after that. This seems to work every time and the tank will be full but not over full.

The problem is more pronounced in AWD cars. The gas tank is a "saddle" style tank because of the AWD system. Sometimes it only fills up part of the tank, especially when the tank is really low when you get to the gas station. I usually fill up at the same gas station, and even there some pumps work better than others. I've gotten to the point where I typically fill up at the same pump every time now, because I know it will allow me to fill the car completely.

That's exactly how I do it, too. I've owned my C4 for over six years and have never even heard of this problem. I figured everyone filled up with the nozzle "upside down" simply because it's the only way I can be comfortable knowing that I'm not resting anything on the paint. If it matters, I rarely fill up at the same place twice in a row.
