MY2000 Stock bumper - Insert is faded. paint or replace?
I removed my front bumper today to clean the radiators. I also cleaned the large black plastic scoops and hit them with some Mother's "Back to Black". They came out great.
My question is about the rubber insert that is attached to the bumper and is very faded. It's too far gone for "Back to Black", so I either have to paint it or replace it. Can you get good results by painting the insert? If so, please recommend a paint that will do a good job.

I took mine out and painted it. It looked like it had overspray on it even though the car hadn't been painted. I used black plastic bumper and trim paint that is available at most auto parts stores. Make sure you spend a lot of time cleaning the plastic with wax and grease remover before you paint it. The one issue I did have was a couple of little fish eyes even though I thought I had washed it really well.
It looks a lot bettter now.

Painted mine when the bumper was off. The black plastic piece unclips from the inside of the bumper with numerous plastic tabs. I used matte black spray paint made for plastic bumpers as well.
It still looks good after a year, but I have my doubts that it will last a long time.
