Default cam timing

after info regarding cam timing. had heads skimmed and new gaskets. marked cams up prior to removal and refiited to marks at tdc but is running like a dumper truck. set up with info according to other tech data, exhuast cam vertical etc. any help much appreciated.

98 3.4 narrow body, thanks for quick reply and interest. new to forum and new porsche owner. hoping to carry out work myself, allready done clutch, front discs and pads, rear pads, fan resistors and head gaskets.

What are the cam readings according to durametric? If the heads were off, just marking and setting to previous marks could make the cam timing off.

For a great write up on how to set cam timing by only pinning the crank with the motor in the car look here

Why did you replace the head gaskets.

replaced gaskets due to coolant loss and massive pressurisation of coolant system. san rensho thanks for link, i have vario cam, is timing still same basic set up or do i need more info. and no idea what durametrics even mean or do ?

OEM head gaskets Never fail so there is a excellent chance you have not addressed the actual cause. Was the heads & cylinders checked for cracks?

Was the car running rough when you lost coolant? Any oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil?

Dude, these engaines don't blow head gaskets.. Never once ever have wee seen it. You had a cracked head, or cracked cylinder and I hope you evaluated it super closely before it went back together. I bet its going to come back to haunt you.

Explain your cam timing regimen. Did you use any special tools?
