Thanks Maurice I may have to just buy a new one if a used one does not pop up soon. I know I had an old BMW sun shade in my garage for years and figured someone has an old 996 shade gathering dust.

Yea no kidding. However when you live in TX a sun shade is a must. I can't imagine the profit margin at $60.

I have a custom fit one in my basement. Since I moved up from the South I don't use it much any more. Let me look around for you.

No problem, you can cut them to fit also. Just go to the local auto parts store, ask them if you can try a few out to see what fits. They will not care. I spent alot on a BMW sunshade and the cheap ones actually had more reflective material on them. Sunshade is just a sunshade.

I bought this one from Pelican labeled as "Custom-Fit Sun Shield - 996 ":http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/...elds_start.htm, $33.95

Here is my review I posted on Pelican.

Custom? Huh? It doesn't fit.
This sunshield is defined as custom fit for a 996. Nope. It is way too wide, it overlaps each A-pillar by about 4 inches, and thus does not lay flat against the windshield. Vertically it goes from the base of the windshield to the middle of the visor - no fit, did somebody measure this thing for a 996? And worse it is a "roll up" sunshield, which retains its rolled pattern when put in place and so has gaps when put in place. On the outside surface is the word Coverking", that is probably the vendor, unacceptable; I'd be happy to advertise for this company if they pay me a monthly fee.

Surprised about this one, Pelican obviously didn't check it out before offering it to customers. I should have known better, there is nothing in the "Product Details" field on the Pelican web site, and no picture.

Better to get an $8.00 fan-fold sunshield from your local auto part store. Received yesterday, returning today. What a hassle.

The insulation materiel is worth the price.

Thanks for the affirmation, I saw that one also and foolishly tried to save $30.00. Should I also try to get rubber floor mats from a '67 Beetle for my 996? Hey, its a related car, should fit fine.

Default I agree....but...

I own the official Porsche sunshield he posted, and I agree that it's worth the extra money. Perfect fit, and it has a pretty thick insulation layer that seems to help keep the temps down in the car down here on the Gulf Coast.

BUT.....The Porsche OEM unit is actually a branded CoverCraft part.

If you can live without the Porsche logo, and if you want to try some other colors, find somebody selling the "UVS100" sunshade made by these guys:

https://www.covercraft.com/us/en/pro...FVM7gQodIr4F3Q

You can usually find them for much less than the Porsche branded one and it's the EXACT same unit.

Good Luck.
