Default Anyone else looking to trade up to a 997 now that the 991 is here??

Anyone else? I have a mint 99 996 Cab w/30k and have been eyeing the 997.2 cab prices dropping in the last few months. Was wondering if I can expect them to drop even further when the 991 cab comes out later this year. Dealer tells me plenty of customers waiting to get their 991's and will be trading in 997's.

My guess is yes, you will see the 997.1 and 997.2 prices drop. However you might also want to wait a while. Right now the 991's are just released and the dealers are not really discounting them. I believe that is 6 mos. to a year you will be seeing the 991's discounted 10%-15% and more, and when that happens it will further force down the prices of 997's. IMHO

I think I'm going to skip the 997 and go straight to the 991 in a few years...

Yeah - I saw a nice '07 997 for <$40K - relatively low miles - so figure about a $10K upgrade over my '02 ... not a bad deal. Problem is I have a Targa - and those are hard to find .... Of course if 997 prices drop too much - 996 becomes harder to sell also ...

996s will likely always sell at a fair price, just not as much as we would like. Lower price just gets many more people closer to their dream. Hopefully, making our down payments on a 997+, much quicker to get. ???

My current plan is to drive my 996 (which I love) for at least 2 more years. Then maybe look at a 2009 997. The prices should be at the right point by then.

I enjoy my C4 so much I cannot imagine spending any more bucks for a few tens of a second off some impractical speed target. I have the 2000 996 set for just the right ride & handling - certainly beyond my skills with grip and speed - and for my everyday commute and Touring... and this year ... more learning at the Auto X events. This car is not too optioned and frankly I prefer the all leather interior style and simple exterior to the 997. Now 10 years from now ... maybe a 991.. they are a very nice looking Robo Car.

That is what I plan as well...
I kept my 964 for 10years and passed on the 993 and I plan on keeping my 2003 996 for 5 or 6 years and the go for a 991.

Never, It ain't much of an upgrade specially speaking of a 997.1 and it's too much of a down grade in looks compared with my C4S.

I love my car.

I think the 996 market is close to bottom or depreciation is slower than newer models. Always good to buy a 2-3 year old car as those are the years where depreciation really hits!

Never. The last of the nanny-free vehicles (unless you count ABS) from Porsche.

I looked for a while and found some 997 II's at my local dealer. Test drove a very nice cab with the works and 36k miles. But I must admit that the asking price of $78k made me back away even though the offer for my '05 C4s was a good one.

A month later, the car was still on the lot at $75k...2 weeks ago I went back hoping for a further reduction in price and the car had disappeared. The sales rep told me that nice 997 II's were being snapped by germans on the internet as the price was very favorable here compared to that in Europe. He added that they had sold off everyone they had on the lot.

Nope, happy with my 996 and don't see the cost-benefit in trading in.

Only a 991 Carrera S or 991 C4S if they have that model in the future.

I have had my sights set on a 997.2 GT3 (RS???) for some time. While it is definately not in the financial cards right now...once the 991 GT3 (RS) comes out there will be those who flock to it so they can have the latest & greatest......at that time, I will have to seriously look into the crystal ball. In the mean time, my baby is right were I need her to be, in the garage, paid for, and ready to roll.
