The Duralast I bought has a pretty tiny vent hole (94R-DLG). The tube fits in but I had to really force it in. I assume this is normal. The old battery had an oval shaped vent tube on the back that had an adapter to fit.

I stand squarely in the middle of the fence on this one. Interstate, about $125 out the door, installed AT the dealership, BY my dealership, recommended BY my dealership. I didn't even have to recode my radio when they were done. They took care of the discard (a 7 year old Interstate), and washed and vacuumed my car before handing me the keys, an hour after I arrived.

Got mine at autozone for about $110. It's exactly like the one that came out of it except it doesn't have Porsche printed on top of it.
It starts the car and everything. Just like the Porsche battery.

When researching batteries, I discovered that every battery brand in the world is made in one of 3 factories... so just look for the best price and longest warranty that you can find. Do not buy based on advertising because it is all just hype.
Installed the Group 49 battery (Sears Diehard Advanced Gold AGM battery, 850 CCA)... it takes up the entire tray and the retainer attaches to the last hole (the one without the threaded pre-attached nut).
What I did to get around that was to take off the battery tray, put a stainless steel bolt with a star washer through the bottom of the hole so the bolt/star washer was upside down, and then re-installed the battery tray. I bought the locknut, washer and bolt at Home Depot
Next, I put in the battery and battery retainer and fastened it down with a stainless steel nut with a nylon insert (or lock nut).
The battery tray allows for a open ended wrench to be slid under to hold the bolt while you ratchet down the nut. You will have to remove the black panel that is next to the battery on the passenger side of the car (very simple, just one torx screw) to get your hand in there with the open ended wrench.
Perfect fit, and a 1-2-3 solution for the bolt hole! Total install time = 4 minutes

I was quoted $395 by my Porsche dealer today for a battery and 1/2 hour of service to install.
Found a direct replacement for my 2001 911 Carrera at Pep Boys for $129 installed. It is a Bosche and has a 3 year replacement warranty and a 96 month prorated warranty. It was a Group 91 size.

Pretty much any group 48/49 (euro H6) battery will work, but I HIGHLY recommend going with an AGM battery. I've just seen to many Interstate and Duralast batteries die early to ever trust these brands again.

I've had the big Bosch from Pep Boys in mine for about 5 years now. Flawless. I give a rats *** about the extra weight there. I want the car to start effortlessly every time I need it. It's sat for weeks, and never an issue. I've had many Duralast batteries over the years, and I agree, they Dontalast. They are just cheaper.

most batteries are all made by the same factory. i had a walmart one. was the cheapest.
make sure you connect the vent tube. you don't want a battery to explode. also wear eye protection and long sleeve in a cool, ventilated area when working on batteries
