Default BATTERY FOR CARRERA 911 $$$!!

Nees to replace my 2001 Carrera 911 battery. Does it need to be a dealer purchased battery? They want $350.00 to replace the battery. Wonder why so expensive. Anything special about the Porsche battery I should know??

Any specially recommended battery??

Get an Interstate battery. They are far less $$$
Do a search, plenty of info here.

The question is why would you even consider buying a battery at the dealer
Just pick one up like previous poster said and install it yourself, Interstate, DieHard, etc... will all work and it is maybe 10 - 15 mins max to install. very easy.

Why so expensive? Because Porsche.

It's the same as any part you'll find on a VW or Audi, but it's for a Porsche so it's 3x as much.

Porsche exhaust? Two mufflers with 8" of pipe coming off off the outlets? $1500.

Dual 2.5" turbo-back exhaust with 3" downpipes for an Audi S4? $550.

New front axle for an Audi S4? $110.

New front axle for my C4S with identical CV joints and axle shafts that are half the diameter? $500.

Isn't it funny that a 911 has the smallest exhaust system of any vehicle yet the cost is four times as much?!?

Friends don't let friends buy Interstate batteries. 'Cus they suck. Really bad. Something like this is far more appropriate ... http://shop.optimabatteries.com/prod...ber=D35/1737.0

Just bought a group 48 at SAMS. Works fine. Replaces 4 yr old battery that PO bought (same brand). Was ~$70?

Autozone is great, they've been buying me new miata ignition cables for years! I think they gave up on selling Interstate though and switched to Duralast? Still, I'd rather spend twice the $ and get twice the battery and half the hassle. It's just to much of a pain in the butt when they fail.

Optima has special instalation modifications, not plug and play.
Go with any group 48 fits right in! no muss no fuss.

Any aftermarket battery with the right size and terminal configuration will work fine. I replaced the Porsche battery with a Tire Store version - works fine and had a 5 year warranty! Way less money.

Autozone Duralast Platinum batteries use AGM (absorbed glass mat) technology like other premium brands. And they have ones that fit.

Go with a Autozone, SAMS, DiHard, Interstate, etc...go with whatever you want just dont overpay. Purchase the correct model for your car and make sure it has a vent for the vent tube.
