Default Key Cost?

I looked at a 2002 Cab last week and talked to the owner again today only to find out that the car only has one key. I would guess that this is a dealer only item and that it is expensive - can anyone give me a idea of the cost of obtaining a 2nd key?

Thanks!

Ted

around $300-$400 (key + programming). or you can also try calling your local dealer tomorrow to make sure.

My car came with 4 keys (an all black one, one with a yellow thingy, one with a red thingy and a wallet key).

Is the key for the Cab supposed to have a button to open/close the roof remotely? None of mine do but the owner's manual referenced one.

There is the cost of the key, the cost to cut the key, and then the cost to program the key!!
Pretty much dealer controlled.
if you buy an ebay key it must have the code tag with it or it is usless. It still must be cut and programmed by dealer.
Valet key without remote funtions is slighly cheaper. Good Luck.

Key head (transmitter) from Sunset or Suncoast, currently about $130. Key blade cut to your image from keysinthepost.com $20. Dealer programming required, as Maurice said, about $100, but some report cheaper from their dealer. So you're looking at about $250 or so, with a little effort on your part.

I would try another dealer, but that may be the "current" price. Everything is going up!
Factor it into the asking price of the car.
Everone buying a used car should get at least two working keys!!!!!

Where are you located? Try other dealers, or put more time in and go with post #8 it is your best bet for least expensive key.
http://www.suncoastparts.com/product/996RECONTROL.html
Or Ebay if you trust it

Plus the blade from keys in the post + dealer programming you are still @ ~ $250-275

Ted,
Is seller willing to defray cost of second key (i.e. adjust price of the car)?
