Default iPod Solisto connection for PCM1

Just installed the Solisto iPod connection on my 2002 996 4S with PCM1. At last - music without resorting to the CD changer or radio

Easy install, and long enough cable to run the iPod to the armrest.

Works with 5*99 song playlists, or direct access through cd6. Not perfect (opening armrest to use direct play is a bit of a pain), but super happy to have an iPod, having almost given up finding smthg for PCM1.

FYI for any potential install - remember to take your cd's out of the cd changer before connecting the Solisto and putting everything back together. Now have 6 cd's stuck in the changer until i can be bothered to connect it back up again ;-)

Thanks. Chuckled at those discs stuck in there (sorry at your expense).
So this takes the place of the changer then? And the aux cable you fed through where?

Takes the place of the cd changer.

Small Solisto box (a bit bigger than a deck of playing cards) sits hidden behind the radio on the transmission tunnel, and the iPod wire runs from there along the side of the transmission tunnel up into the armrest (hidden under the trim until it comes up into the side of the armrest)

Does anyone know of an ipod remote control that uses the headphone jack?? I'd like to have a small remote that means I can leave the iPod in the armrest. Wireless would be best, but not a problem if is small enough and runs through a wire - thinking of smthg that would fit into the ashtray, or that i could stick to the side of the transmission tunnel.

Many thanks, Gareth.

Yes; Apple makes them, at least they did for the older generation iPods. I have one, part number is 603-2454 and since I don't need it, if you want it, I'll mail it to you, although it has an odd connection at the end. You could also use an Apple wireless remote; if not mistaken they work with newer gen iPods, part number 603 - 8731 - A. I have one of those too that could be yours if you want it.

Hi Peter - thanks ever so much for the reply - the iPod I use in the car is this version: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1353#clickwheel

Any idea which of these would work with it?? Many thanks! Gareth.

Wow, a click-wheel iPod. And I thought mine was the oldest around....actually mine still is.
I would think the wireless remote control wouldn't work, but I can't promise, so I would try the wired. My headphone jack looks like the pic below, and if yours is the same, PM me your address and I'll throw the wired remote in the mail to you, or try to head to your apple store to get one.
Good luck!

Thanks Peter - another Rennlist star :-)

82_930 - do you have PCM1 or a Becker single din? not sure those cables work with pcm1 (despite what it says in the description), hence the need for smthg like the Solisto.

with a becker single din, will work fine, but will enable control directly through the ipod only, unlike the Solisto option, which allows cd 1-5 to control and play predefined playlists.

rgds, Gareth.
