Default I received my Ti lug bolts in the mail today.

I received my Ti lug bolts in the mail today. I want to thank Alan C. for a smooth transaction. RL is full of great guys and Alan is one of them.

Here are a few pics of the Ti bolts and a pic of my OEM bolts on the left front wheel which are quite rusted for being only two years old. BTW, it rained here today so the brake dust you see was splattered over the wheels by the rain.

I'll post more pics tomorrow of the Ti bolts on the car.

If you have any extra Tim, you may want to run a chain through one for the wife. Talk about bling, they look nice. Think of the unsprung weight you've lost.

Here is some additional info about my Ti bolts.

Size - In total, the Ti bolts are 13mm longer than the OEM bolt. The threads are 9mm longer than OEM and the "nut" is 4mm taller than OEM.

Threaded insert - I have no idea why it is there. I guess, collectively, they would hold 20 sorts of coke? I'll have to verify this and get back to you later.

Weight - The OEM bolt is 94 grams and the Ti bolt is 79 grams, including the threaded insert in the center. Without the threaded insert, the Ti bolt is 72 grams.
  • 20 OEM bolts - 4.13 pounds
  • 20 Ti bolts - 3.47 pounds. Total Weight savings versus OEM is 10.6 ounces
  • 20 Ti bolts w/o threaded insert- 3.16 pounds. Total Weight savings versus OEM is 15.5 ounces
Locking wheel nut - Yes, I will lose the "locking" wheel nut.

I will install them today and post pics after I clean up the wheels.

Hey, if you come to the parking lot and the lug nuts are gone but the wheels are still there, you will know I was around!

Where did you get them? (I do not know Alan from the original post)

Jon,

Bawhahahaha! That ^ is a good one!

Who makes them? - Apparently, a fellow RL member (rare911s) contacted a manufacturer in China to have these made. To keep costs "reasonable" the minimum order was 200 bolts (10 sets). He then planned to sell the extra sets, which have all be sold.

Where did I get them? - rare911s was offering the final 3 or 4 sets on Rennlist. He had sold all of the sets before I contacted him. Damn! Then I hooked up with Alan C and he agreed to sell his set to me. Alan bought these for $300, which is the amount I paid him for the bolts. I have seen similar Ti bolts for $500 (with fixed collar) and $600 (with floating collar).
