Powder coating will not hold up long-term. Better off buy an extra set and spray painting both sets (top with clear coat for extra protection). Then replace individual lugs as necessary....

I think the lack of clear coat was part of my problem was well...When I redo them I'll be a little more thorough.

OK ...

on a serious note aside from painting them yourself there are other options available. I would suggest getting in touch with a local coatings facility and ask them what they recommend. They are the experts and know what works with what application. Most of the corrosion resistant coatings processes are very toxic and contain metals that are not available over the counter. The processes are complex and the results are predictable.

For a few bolts they will charge a "minimum lot fee" which may range from $50-200.

Some places would love the business and some would rather not deal with a guy and his 20 bolts... so keep looking and you will find a good fit. Along the way you will learn what coatings are best suited for your application...

(or get a rattle can at the hardware store and repeat in 1-2 years)

i find this thread funny because in the service records of my newly purchased 996, i see 2 visits to the dealer for new lug nuts. 1x in 2002 and again in 2007.

I am looking into the same problem with my lug bolts. I was considering these, but a few guys on the 997 Forum said stainless steel would not be a strong (tinsel strength) as the OEM bolts that look like ****!

I wouldn't mess around buying aftermarket lug bolts, they do hold our wheels on, after all!

I have always found it amazing how bad and how quickly these rust... it is just so un-Porschelike.

When I bought my car two years ago I took it to my independent for a new clutch and RMS (negotiating points on the purchase). I had noticed the lug nuts were nasty but just added that to the project list along with aluminum gauge rings and bumperplugs.

A few days after I got the car home I noticed that all of the lug nuts were clean, shiny and silver. My shop, where I have done business a long time, had just gone ahead and cleaned them up without even mentioning it, or charging for it. I dropped off a dozen Krispy Kreme in thanks!

Stainless Steel Lug Bolts
Yes, do not use SS lug bolts. It has a much lower tensile strength than automotive steel (10.9 or better)

I didn't see the post you are referencing, but the owner of a post can delete it from a thread and the system will automatically renumber all posts which followed the deleted post, leaving no numerical gap.

If you had quoted the post before it was deleted, the quoted post should still be in your post.... UNLESS a moderator removed the quoted post.

BTW, my rusty OEM lug bolt problem will be solved in a week or so. I have some Ti lug bolts being shipped out on Monday!
