RUSTY Wheel Lugs ...

I agree rust on the lug nuts detracts from the concourse look, but having to remove all the nuts (and the wheels) discourages me from painting mine. Too much of a PITA.

awe....you can remove one nut (bolt) at a time and paint it...no need to even jack up the car
and you CAN drive with only 4 bolts on for a day while you wait for it to dry.. NO DE's or high speed cornering, but to and from work missing one bolt will not hurt anything.....
just do 4 at a time (one from each wheel) - install and repeat for the next one in line

or paint 4 - 8 of them Friday night and let them dry in the house till Saturday morning...and put them back on, do 4-8 more next weekend
if you are not driving it, you can remove 2 from each wheel without even jacking up the car, but dont drive it

I did mine about two years ago and they looked great for a while...now they're crap again. I guess I should consider a soft lug adapter to avoid damaging them when I'm removing wheels.

Bought an extra set of used lugs from another RL member here... stripped them then swapped out the rusted lugs one at a time. One I'm stripping the original lugs. May p-coat these black if I do the same to the wheels.

I used a Sliver Touch-up tube paint, Toyota Silver Color as I recall. The small in-cap brush and a some what steady hand allowed me to paint the head/end of the bolts on the car. That is all you see anyway and the lug wrench doesn't bother it.

You can find some high percentage zinc paint at a hardware store. That is probably your best bet going with that as your base coat. Watch out for going to nuts made of metals different than your studs are seeing that lots of metalurgy available these days is from questionable country sources.........
