996 Long Term Test
Well after 12 years I finally bit the bullet and traded my 1999 996 Cab 6 sp that I bought new on a 2012 997 S Cab. Picked it up on Friday. All I can say is WOW!
Ok so this is a 996 forum so what about 12 years and 50000 miles with my 996 Silver Cab.
Early on RMS Seal replaced at 6000 miles never leaked since. Coolant bottle and glove box hinge. All Under warranty. Replaced visors. Heater core sprung a leak two years ago. Brakes pads last year. Lots of tires.
All in All it's been a great car. I take good care of my cars and change oil once a year. Store it in the winters here in MN. When I drive I drive hard so I have not babyed it. YMMV

sounds like the natural progression. as others have stated, it is good to hear the good news stories about our cars. seems as though the minority with problems generate the majority of bad press. hope the 997 is just as good. have fun.

The 996 visor issue directly effects resale value. So far Porsche is refusing to admit there is a problem.
I'm afraid to drive mine, but hear some company is working in an upgraded titanium replacement visor.

jake states that it needs to be replaced at 50k miles.... But the visor Gaurdian will warn you if you need it done sooner, and the warranty can cover the costs if it does go sooner or later.... Man, the marketing machine is well oiled!

I don't know what you guys are talking about - I've never heard of visors failing.
But I did replace my glovebox with an upgraded carbon fiber model. Titanium hinges and all.
To the OP. Congrads on the new ride. Hopefully your 997 treats you as well as the 996.
