You need to turn off the setting using a PST2 or PIWIS tester.

Thanks Loren......I do not have the car with me it is at the body shop I cannot see all of the other parts, so the shop turns off the parking sensor with the PIWIS tester and then can remove all of the wires of the sensor itself?

when you back up it locates objects that you are 'closing' in on and it will start to beep more frequently as you are getting closer to the object....in my case I had backed up into the bottom of my grill guard on my Land Cruiser and it did not beep; I think the object was too high up or in this case it was 6am in the morning and I was still half asleep and the beeping sound did not register with me...for the sensors in the early 996's they stick out are not not flush with the bumper, they do not look aesthetically pleasing. I am going to have it removed...

Yes, turning it off with a PST2 or PIWIS will prevent you from getting error messages about (missing) faulty sensors.

Parking sensor he is referring to is the factory Parkassist option. Which beeps at you when you backup and are close to hitting something.

I have an '02 C4 cab that doesn't have that feature. It sounds great and actually i would prefer it becuase with the top up, it's tough to see behind me when backing up. figures. Those that have it, don't want it and those that don't have it, do.

Good luck getting it removed and thanks for the reply.

I don't understand why you would need it on such a small car! It's not like it's a motorhome for crying out loud.

Oh yeah - I guess it's for when you let the wife borrow the car
