Default Oil change. Open filter, small particles

Hi guys,
I am new posting.
I just did my first oil change.
996 C2, 71.000 Kms, 2001, 3.4, green, tiptronic. I have 6.000 kms with it.
I oppened filter element and found small pieces of plastic (three) and very very small metal pieces (six).
Looks like plastic (polyamide from a bearing?).
Is there anything to be worried about?.
Everything else looked fine.
Thanks for your help.

Hi rvidal Nice looking 996

The plastic parts look like the variocam pad material.

You can do a search "variocam pad" there are lots of threads about those.

Great looking Porsche rvidal. Perhaps Jake Raby will tune in to your posted picture with some helpful advice based on those particles found in your filter. GL

It is normal to have small bits like that in your filter. I cut open a few of my filters and they are like that. My car has 99K miles on it now and just dropped the engine for an overhaul. My IMS bearing looked fine with small wear on the shaft but the bearing itself was fine. I would not worry too much. The brown bits are from the variocam pads and they hold up until 100K miles plus before replacement.

Steve,

I found a great shop who is charging me under $2k for the labor plus cost of parts. I cannot do it myself at that price.

I take it the plastic was on the inside, not outside of the filter? The oil flows from the inside of the filter to outside? Just checking as I am not sure.

Nope, the oil flows outside to inside. First to the plastic-cup then thru filter and back to the engine.

Im at 135K have about the same material in my filter every time. I too think it is VP material. I plan on changing them this winter.

The Polyamide is from your Cam guide/wear pads and the small flakes should be little bits of Aluminum.... Very normal to see this in small amounts.
