Mid-life crisis?
#46
I started riding motorcycles when I was 48, long story but my wife convinced me against her will to buy a Harley. The day I brought it home a few neighbors came over to check out the noise and all of the comments were about me having a mid-life crisis. I just smiled and said yeah - with luck you might live long enough and work hard enough to enjoy one too. Then at 52 I pull up in the Porsche and a neighbor literllaly sprints to my driveway and says oh, ANOTHER mid life crisis? And I smile as big as I can and say NO - it's the same one and it's probably only a crisis for you. I love this crisis. Had my first and only other 911 when I was 21 - only comments back then was "cool" and "and what's up with that oil smell".

I took my 85 year old father for a blast in the new 996. After the ride he was exiting the vehicle with my help but fell right on his face. The altitude shift knocked him off balance. He was'nt hurt at all thank god., but it is a very low car. Even with my "suv" height standard c2.

LOL - The decision to buy mine happened when my Father was in a nursing home and learned he was never coming home again. My Father was the frugal do with out will enjoy himself someday later kind of guy. Seeing him wheelchair bound and learning that his lifetime savings were taken in exchange for care got me to thinking... and thinking hard... when is someday? So, after proving to my wife that we had the cash the decision was made that someday was going to be today.
So - when I brought the 996 home - my wife sort of helped me out of the car and she was laughing so hard it had me cracking up. She said "good timing, if you would have waited any longer you might be able to get in this thing and never get out".
Weird times - Mom is the same nursing home now - and I am thinking it is time to add the winter 996.

John, I agree...someday is today
the year I bought the 996 I went to 9 funerals - I did some of that same thinking....I decided that the worst thing that could happen was to die before I got the one thing I had wanted my whole life..2 weeks later (on Mother's day) I came home in the 996...and very glad i did!
best of luck on your parents care and times, I am sure it's tough.

I’m 25, so this cannot be a mid-life crisis! Mid–life crisis will be a little later. Another Porsche or a Aston Martin!!!
Corvettes and Mustangs are the #1 Mid-life crisis car choices! And lately it's been the Chargers/Camaro's too...

Originally I had my mid-life crisis scheduled for November of 2000, but I was just too busy at the time and never got around to it. Maybe next year.
To me, the Corvette is more a stereotypical MLC car than any of the upscale European makes. The Porsche is indeed more of a reward than a symbol, and when I finally find the turbo I want, I will drive it until that day that I'm physically unable to drive it. [or until they take my license away, whichever comes first ]

I've made a decision that as long as I can possibly afford it I want this 911 in my life.

I was 28 then so hopefully a Porsche is not a mid-life crisis because if so that doesn't leave me with a lot of time to enjoy them!
