Mid-life crisis?

For me it is more of a lifelong obsession.

I'm 50 and I bought a Porsche=midlife crisis? When people hear I bought a Porsche what many say is "Oh' the mid-life crisis thing!" What the F? I've been planning to buy this car for fifteen years yet most think it's an impulse buy to boost my textosteroon. Has anyone else been told they're over- compensating?
When I first got a Porsche, some of my friends said "sorry to hear about your *****."

Mid-life doesn't refer to the literal middle of one's lifespan. It refers to the period between youth and old age. (Yes, I know I'm being a d*ck)

Jealousy causes people to be mean-spirited. Just remember to smile at the less fortunate.
FWIW, Mrs SSST's GL450 was a lot more than my Porsche. My truck only cost a few thousand less 4 years ago.

I've always thought of Corvette to be more of a mid-life crisis car than the Porsche. The Porsche is coveted more by people with real car sense, more of a student of the art than most. The Vette could be driven by your kid brother. But a 911 is a different animal. It does not reside on blocks outside trailers for long periods. It is valued for it's form and will be used again and again by smart people who are in love with the way it moves down the road. I can't stay out of it! (5 weeks 5,000 mi) omg.

Its pretty ignorant and probably envy for those who say this stuff.
I have worked hard my entire life and love cars, period!
Yeah, I think Corvettes are more related to this mid life crisis stuff...

As I was getting into my 72 911T today with my son after his soccer game, one of his friends dad saw us and and asked my son "is your dad having a mid life crises?" Earlier in the week I had someone say that I must be compensating for something. I responded with "yes I am, but the comforting effects of owning two Porsche's helps me get through the night".

I even had a warm up 911, A bright yellow 911T; yet most think it's an impulse buy to boost my textosteroon. Has anyone else been told they're over- compensating?
Granted I'm not 50...or even 40...but I'm sure people have privately made their own comments. All of my family and close friends, however, know that I've been a Porsche guy all of my life. Hell, I have a framed poster that I've had since I was 13 now hanging in my garage.
Okay, maybe I shouldn't have admitted that...but let people say what they want. What matters (for me) is that I finally have the car of my dreams parked next to the poster. The only crisis would be not having it.

Turned 40 last year. Had promised it to myself as it has been my dream car forever. So if someone thinks its a mid life crisis, who cares?? I am the one driving my Porsche, fulfilling my dream. And its a great crisis to have. Rather have one that I can afford than one I can't!!

I look at it this way: I was 47 when I bought mine. That's old enough to be able to pay cash after a lot of years of busting my ***. One shot at it, in the slot between house-poor, divorce-poor, and kids-going-to-college poor. One great car for this life (not counting the wife's Maserati... but the same equation for her).
