Default What Service Records do You Keep?

Just curious -- what kind of service records do you keep for your car and how do you do it, especially those who do a lot of DIY work.

I just save my receipts for anything associated with the car and fill one manila envelope per year of ownership. Oil changes and major services I log separately.

I save every associated receipt, for each car, in a file, in chronological order. My indy also stamps my books. All of my purchases are also tracked in Quicken. This also includes UOA's, DME scan reports, and State emission reports.

I have a Porsche folder, and a Honda folder in my garage cabinet. I save any relevant receipt (not receipts for air fresheners or cleaning supplies).

Believe it or not, the Honda folder has more receipts in it!

I keep a "baby book." Every invoice is put into a sheet protector and then into a 3 ring binder.

For services I do myself, I create my own invoice detailing what I did, including mileage on the car and date. I then attach the receipt(s) for the part(s) used to the invoice I created.

I keep the latter, and don't use the former. I think the latter helps with the former. Does any of this make sense?

I keep an excel spreadsheet log with every maintenance, repair, warranty item with date, mileage etc. done to the Orient Express since delivery.

I also have a folder with the source receipts as well, and a weekly mileage log.

I hope it isn't a huge no-no but I wrote in the log book when I changed the oil, oil filter, and air filter. Including the type of oil i used. Doesn't look as good as a dealer stamp but didn't know where else to put it.

+1 Every maintenance item or part purchased is documented on a vehicle history spreadsheet.

Each DIY also has a line entry, detailing service performed, mileage, parts used and comments.

Receipt for each purchase and paid service is on file.

I keep a folder for each car as well. I also created a maintenance LOG sheet that I created with the VIN#, miles, and descriptions of items performed. I staple the receipt to it so there is correlation to it on the DIYs stuff I perform.

I keep everything that relates to the car, just like zookie. I keep it all in a 3-ring binder, and I also keep a spreadsheet that summarizes it all and gives me additional data, such as: average mileage between service, average cost per service, etc.

Me too. It looks somewhat crude, but it details oil/filter changes and any other work done to it by me. Better than no records. Plus I also keep all purchase receipts of filters, parts etc.

We are the kind of owners that others like to buy their used Porsches from.
