Exactly. I work at an oil refinery and guys are always telling me how crazy I am for driving that car out there, plus what a fool I am for buying such an expensive car. Kinda funny as I look at my old 996 sitting among a sea of $50 & 60,000 Super Duty diesel pick ups...

I'll add that not only are they in a 50k + truck/suv, they then put their kid in a car of equal value to my P-car to get banged up at the local high school.

And here is a really sick thought - I am shopping for a new back up ride and thinking all wheel drive and at that price, well, heck, I could buy a used 996 and make it a winter car. Sure, two P-cars, a summer one and a winter one, I think I need serious help (and way more money).
I realized during Irene that I can be so okay with out cable tv or internet - but NOT driving the 996? Stressful - so I drove it anyway - what was I supposed to do? No cable tv, no internet, had to have something entertaining to do.

I paid over a 100K for mine, that's before any custom work.
I guess it would be worse if I had a turbo... guess the evaluation is going to go even more down the toilet when the 991 comes out

I drive mine as much as I can when the weather is nice. I avg 7k-8k per year on the 911.
A friend of mine purchased a 2001 911 in 2006 with 18k miles. Paid a huge premium. Fast forward to 2011. The car only has 2011. The car has 22k miles. I asked why he bothers to have the car. Wife and I agree, he seems to have the car, just to say he has a 911.

I have a serious case of "I have to drive somewhere" every single day. I thought it might wear off after a few months but it seems to be getting worse every day.
The problem is every time I come up with a reason to leave the house so I can drive, I have to follow through with that reason and buy whatever it is I left for.
Having this car as a daily driver is costing me way more than I expected. Just not in the maintenance department...all I've had to do is change the oil, filter, and input gas.

the crickets are the only thing they'll eat so I have an exuse to go the twistys or the highway to the pet store for my bugs at $3.00 for 25 small crickets. I feel silly going in to request crickets at the counter, but it gets me on the road.
I've come to accept that I'm addicted to driving my car. There are worse things than loving to drive your porsche, like drinking scotch all day or watching football 24 7. If I have to make a stupid excuse to drive so be it.
I'd try practicing taking trips that aren't store related , park, beach ect.

I used to have a 997 but was **** so I bought an M3 sedan. The M3 was great but lacked the zing a 911 brings everyday. So I sold the M3 and bought a cheap 996 as a "beater" around 20k.
I love it because it's not pristine so I don't mind if the kids get it a little messy, the A/C is so much colder than my M3, and it's a classic silver color so I don't mind showing up to client's office with a 10 year old car. Sorted.

Ha ha. Sid probably paid over $100k just on mods. I love that car.
Mine is a DD. I've got the Cayenne for bad winter conditions. One thing life has taught me, if you don't drive that biatch hard, someone else will after you paid for it.

I bought my '99 C2 with 42.5K miles.....in 6 months now have 53.4K miles....almost a daily driver to work (50Miles round trip). I did not buy it to look at it....I bought it to drive it, and enjoy every second of it......
I use the "back up car" for short errands around town.

the mayor said we had to evacuate nyc = road trip to western PA!
btw if you've never been to see fallingwater, you really should check it out.
amazing piece of work, and amazing roads for putting the car to work.
