Driving in stop and go traffic recently I was unable to shift into gears 1,3,5.
after getting by in 2 and 4 for a while it reverted back to all gears being OK.
Where should I look for this problem.Under center console or under car?
Any ideas greatly appreciated.

 

First thing to check is under the car. See if the cables are in the brackets on the side of the trans near where the ball sockets on the end of the cable connect to the shifter arms. It is pretty common for the cables to come out of the brackets which can cause this problem. And on mine one of the cables would actually come out of the bracket and them go back in. You can get new pieces that hold the cables into the brackets of the quick repair is some zip ties to hold the cables in place.

If this is not the problem then you can look under the console.

Not my picture, but is the cable coming out of the bracket where the red circles are or is it coming out of the "9 clip on the second picture schematic?
Mine is in place now and works fine so I don't know where the weakness is.
I want to put the zip tie in the right place the first time.

 

You can also zip tie the things to the left of those where the cable actually attaches to the shifter arm on the transmission.

The round things... yes the #9 clip as well.

 

Your gonna want to tie wrap the cables to #12 in the schematic. Sometime the prongs that hold the cables in either wear or lose their elasticity over time and when you shift the cable leverages itself at full detent pushing it out of the bracket. Mine were popping out at the bracket

it may be under the console.....as well. Im betting its this...These are known to break and can be upgraded to this....

 

I looked under there today and it was at #12 on the schematic diagram zip tied em and done.
The cable was half out of the bracket thats why it was working again.
