Default Wheel Spacer Advice for NB 996

i would like to push my wheels out a bit purely for aesthetic reasons. I have 18" Sport Classic rims with standard sized tires. The car is a 2000 C2 Cab and has not been lowered. I have seen 7 mm front and 15 mm rear recommended to others.

When I use the H&R wheel spacer measuring technique posted on their website, it says I have no room. The outer edge of the rim and tire are even with the inside of the fender lip on the rear. Will I have to worry about my tires rubbing if I add the spacers?

I'd appreciate your input.

I may not be any help here as I am fooling around with 17" wheels. I am interested in the same issue but with 17 inch wheels & tires. I just switches to the set of aftermarket Turbo Look wheels I had on my 968. They are ET-47 7.5 in the front and ET-62 9's in the back - they look to have moved the wheels out about one inch both front and rear. Odd because the standard offset was ET 55 so the rears are adding 7 mm to the offset - but the front are just compensating for the extra half inch width. I added another 3mm spacer to the rear and that looks good but I would not go wider as my PSS9 suspension is set to GT3 ride height. So my guess is... front plus 5 mm and rear plus 10 mm is about right for me.

This weekend I am installing 18mm spacers on the rear with 295/18s. The inner edges of my fenders were already rolled when I bought the car (they may come that way, I don't know). I plan on putting 15mm spacers on the front (245/18s). My car is on stock suspension.

I'll let you know how that works out...

Cool C4 with 10 mm rear offset

So here is the C4 with the standard 255 on 9x17's in the rear and 225's up front on 7.5x17. The rear has a wheel with ET 62 offset and an additional 3 mm spacer or plus 10 mm net over the stock ET55. Any more that this and I think it would be to much for these tires. The front are ET 47 but with the half inch wider wheel (approx 12 mm) I have a net plus of 2 in the front... assuming my math is correct

Just put the 18mm spacers on. With the 295s in the rear the tires stick out just a bit. If the car was lowered it could be a problem. 15mm spacers would work but 10-12mm would be perfect.

That being said, with a stock width tire the 18's would be fine I'm sure. I can post a pic if you're interested.

Another Note: In Adrian's book 996 Essencial Companion, he states that Porsche approves of a 5 mm spacer front or rear, and a 17mm spacer "for certain rear wheels". Longer Bolts are required for both.
Working with JR at Chris's I am going to play with some 5 and 15 mm spacers ands see what happens. I will take some Pix and post in a few weeks.

15mm all round running 235F and 295 R perfect

Just the front when making tight turns, rubber slight rub on inside wheel well...no biggy.

I have 7 mm all around on RoW M030 suspension. I think it could have handled a few more mm but looks good to my taste

Yah, I am thinking on selling them. I got screwed on the deal... I should have asked for less when I bought. I can sell them to you at a good deal hahahah

Please remember that the examples quoted above for 7 or 15 mm spacers means nothing to you unless your wheels have the same Offset. The width of the Wheel and the Total offset with Spacer is the key to a good fit. Then there is tire size and Suspension height... and - width of the Tread can even be different on the same size tire from different manufactures.

So can you offer me some advice? Fronts are 7.5" 50mm with 18" 235 40's and rears are 10" 65mm with 18" 265 40. Tires are Yokohama Envigors. Car has stock suspension (Canada) and I do not plan to lower it.

The fronts look pretty good and need only a minor offset increase. The rears are recessed far too much. I'm thinking 15 mm spacers on the rear.

pterfloth.....the best example is to use Jake's picture. I'm guessing he is saying for you to add 15mm spacers to get the look he has. Why? The wheels on his car are GT3 wheels which have the following specs (8.5 et40 and 11 et63). I run the GT3 wheels on my 2000 CAB and they are perfect.

Here's how much "theoretical" spacer they have compared to your 7.5et50 and 10et65 wheels.

Front difference 7.5et50 --> 8.5et40 equates to adding a 22.5mm spacer to your 7.5 wheel.
Rear difference 10et65 --> 11et63 equates to adding a 14.5mm spacer to your 7.5 wheel.

Putting on 15mm spacers front and rear would be just fine. I would NOT go more than 15mm in the rear as that is about as maxed out as you can go without putting the tire at risk from compression. The biggest problem you have is the 7.5et50 was the least aggressive of the 18" wheels that were on the 996. FYI....Porsche sells a 17mm spacer that does not require longer bolts. It is a spacer with studs built in. I have a set that I ran on my Turbo with narrow body wheels. Here is what they look like LINK
