got back from my 3500 mile roadtrip in the 996
Worked flawlessly despite being a magnet for police, especially Oregon State Troopers. Got caught in a sleet storm that turned my knuckles white when the car simply started to drift off the highway but calm prevailed with hazard lights on, off gas, and letting natural engine braking do its thing.
Averaged pretty good fuel economy at 27.6 mpg before hitting San Francisco on the return and hunting for parking spot for 40 minutes downtown going up and down the hills at night.
Took the coast on the way down, from La Push, Washington and through the Olympia National Forest. Just gorgeous. Took 5 up due to time. Stop in San Francisco, Cannon Beach in Oregon, and finally Seattle.....for a concert.
Car consumed just about 2 quarts of oil on the trip, and a little topping off on the water in the expansion tank due to having my front radiators just being replaced because of a small leak prior to the trip.
Mt Shasta on the return
Stopped off at a few breweries
Stayed overnight at Cannon Beach, OR
10 hours worth of this view....reminds me of my roadtrip through Schwarzwald in Germany
Car on Ferry through the San Juans
Stayed with a friend in Mount Vernon. This could be heaven
View from the 23rd floor hotel room
And the aforementioned concert
Then of course, the car needed a scrubdown once home
Two tone
Filthy dirty *****
That's better, and ready for the next adventure, probably Laguna Seca this August.

Nice photos, interesting take on the PP.
Looks like it was an awesome drive. I'm from the Bay Area, and from about Santa Barbara - north, to me, it just doesn't get any better. Thanks for the report.

Speed limits in OR strictly enforced. That's good and bad. Good cause I can drive across (south to north or north to south on I-5 on one tank of gas. In OR one can't pump his own gas and I don't like the OR gas station attendants pumping gas into my Porsches. Bad cause it takes what seems like forever to get across OR.)
On a related note to your comment about your car being police magnet, my arctic silver Porsche didn't attract any attention in OR save one time when I pretty much dozed off at the wheel and the car drifted over towards the fast lane. A honk from a vehicle next to mine woke me up and I got the car back in its lane.
As the vehicle that honked drove by in the fast lane I looked over and noticed the sheriff vehicle decal on the passenger's door. I took the next rest stop exit and got some much needed rest.
Sounds like you had a nice trip. I can't wait to hit the road again on a road trip. I'm shooting for Sept.
Sincerely,
Macster.

In the late 70's oregon state police liked to play leap frog games where one would pull off the hwy while another hwy patrol is set up on the onramp to shoot people thinking its clear to hit the gas because the policeman left the hwy. Cute trick. I guess they would go the speed limit to wind up people stuck in a hurry.
