Default Replacing "Carrera" script

I just noticed that the "Carrera" emblem on the deck lid is cracked. The black lettering is nearly invisible on my dark green car and I'm thinking of changing to silver lettering. I find it a little odd that you can't find the designation "911" anywhere on the car, so I'm also thinking about changing it to "911". (Tired of people asking me if it's a Boxster).

How does the neighborhood review board feel about changing the rear script

1. To silver?
2. from "Carrera" to "911"?

I wouldn't want to make another DSL faux pas.

Cool

It bugs me when folks ask if it is a Boxster. And when you say "No, it's a Carrera." they follow that up with "is it a Turbo?" There hasn't been a TurboCarrera for 25 years (1976 was the only year the script actually said that, after that they were just Turbo), but that is what they think all Porsches are.

So, just put whatever you want on the back of that car, because no matter what you put, the vast majority of the ignorant and unwashed population will never know the difference. You might take a little heat here if you put TURBO lettering back there, but we are your friends and we will still be your friends no matter what you put.
The rest of the folks don't really matter.

The silver "911" numbers would look good on your car.

Nobody has ever asked if my 996 was a Boxster, but I always get.... is it a Turbo?

My car is debadged but I am fan of the 911 script, probably look great on your car.

Mine's a Cab, so the question comes up frequently.

That makes sense,... I'm slow today.... well everyday.

However, when I had a Boxster S people asked me if it was a 911

I've heard the "Boxter" comment before, but it doesn't bother me. (I like the boxter too ) I really like the way the silver "911" looks on the back deck lid, so I say go for it. If I were to replace mine again, I'd consider going with the "911" script.

It's not really a "911." It's a 996. Either put a 996 script on it (which doesn't exist) or just label it as the factory does--"Carrera." Many opt for silver when their base color is dark, if you want higher contrast.

I opted for a lower profile, because I wish to remain invisible!

If they ask me if mine is a Boxster I tell them no it's a Porsche!

Just kidding.

Maybe a stupid idea, but how about getting the 911 or Carrera script and having Bumperplugs in the Dark Green of the car? That tone on tone looks rich -- like EDGY01. The black script on a black car looks particularly good.

Sorry Dan, you're just plain wrong on this one. Check the Porsche website. It's a 911 first and foremost.911 models

I know, but I had to toss a grenade in there! Porsche markets it as both a "911" and a "Carrera" because they are able to bank on the 911 cash cow.

Think about having it painted by Eric at Bumper Plugs--you don't need to announce what you are driving. You're driving a terrific car and you have no need to explain anything!

The "911" badge is unusual and for a 996 was used only (as far as I know) on the 40th anniversary special edition. Maybe I'm too much of a traditionalist, but I'd be reluctant to borrow a designation used for a specific application like that.

Besides which, I think "Carrera" is one of the most beautiful and evocative names in the car world.

To each their own of course, but personally I'd repair (replace) the badge and wear it with pride.

I'm a fan of doing what "you" want.

I did what I wanted and I'm really happy with the subtile look , black 911 on black. I really didn't like to advertise to the world that I'm driving a Turbo, and disliked it even more in chrome on black.

Trivia
The 996 script actually did exist. It was used in Europe, and also on a very little known US option package in 2001 called the GT Package. The actual script was "996 GT". Somewhere in my old photo CD's I have a picture. I'll try to remember to dig it out and post it here as an update to this post.

And futher trivia: The 968 script comes as three separate numbers on the sheet. You can buy two 968 scripts, combine the 9 from one and the 9 6 from the other. Unfortunately, they only come in black.

The "911" badge came on 40th Anniversary and Millenium Editions. Since my car is a MY 2000, it is not much of a stretch. Suncoast does sell a "996" badge http://www.suncoastparts.com/product...Code=996emblem
