TSB for the positive lead to the starter?
I'm talking about the big (+) wire that goes from the mid transmission to the starter (and then, to the alternator)... do they have an updated part number to use? or maybe the 997 part? I have trouble with the "hot" starting problem and since I'm selling the car, I wanna take care of this before releasing it to the new owner. Anybody?
thanks in advance!

I'm not aware of a hot starting TSB.
However I had the same problem - the car would simply not restart when it was hot (really hot - like 90F or hotter), and it turned out to be a corroded wire (the large lead from the starter, alternator, then connection point to the front of the car).
Here's the thread... (in a nutshell I think it depends on the serial # of your engine as to which part to use).

Of course, if you are a member you might post there as there are certainly those that are more knowledgeable than I.

If so.. I just replaced this wire and I have the part # its 996 607 019 01
In my AOS replacement thread I came across a severly corroded wire. https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...adventure.html

If they came out with a new part I'm sure that the # i used you would have been superceded. Mine came straight from the dealer about $65 if i recall. Try giving the dealer a call and ask them to be certain. I know when I called pelican they didn't even have that # loaded.

Yep, I will give suncoast a call. My symptoms are the usual. Great and fast start up in the mornings (even when cold), no drop on battery voltage during use but after reaching operating temperatures (180) if I stop the car and try to re-start (like filling gas or drop at the post office really quick) the starter sounds like it has an almost dead battery. If you let the car sit for 2 hours, it will start right up. I have a new battery, new starter and new alternator. cable is my next try.

Definitely sounds like that cable or a bad ground strap somewhere. +1 on giving a dealer a call for the exact P/N. There is a link in the thread for renntech where Loren posts the two possible parts from PET IIRC.

Will try that. The ground strap was ok with good contacts, so by elimination, this is the next step.
Do you know if the 997 version of this cable is any better and would fit our 996's? I know the 997 has a revised/fatter cable...

I dunno about the 997 version sorry. A new cable should last 10+ years, assuming the engine doesn't get washed too many times or it isn't stored outside in a rainforest. If you want to save money, just buy some quality 4 gauge wire and crimp the ends yourself. Use some dielectric grease. Also just because a cable looks OK doesn't mean it isn't shot. Which is what I found (if you read through the RT.org post).

996 607 019 01 and 03 are not superseded.
BTW the ground strap part 996 607 030 00 is used in all 1998-2005 911 carrera models, in 997.1 2005-2008 carrera and in 987 2005-2008 boxster.

If it's a cable, any warm start problem should involve cables from the battery to the starter, the starter itswlf or an earth. Low voltage issues can involve any can include all cables, earth, voltage regulator or alternator.
