Default A/C display

Has anyone seen this happen to the display before? If so, please tell me what can be done about it. And as always, thanks for all of the great info.

You need to replace or I think there are some firms out there that will fix the LCD display.
I have also seen some DIY repair kits on ebay but I dont know if they work.

they call this 'the rising sun' phenomenon. you can buy a replacement LED kit on ebay. you'll have to disassemble the face & solder in the replacement board. it's pretty easy if you've soldered before.

Thanks Marc. I have a warranty and will see if this is covered. I'm not betting on it.

Mine is doing the same thing, only on the left side. I don't want to replace the whole unit, just the LCD display. Found two threads on the subject, but haven't found where to buy the display. I'd prefer an OEM display versus some Audi part. Anyone know exactly where to get it.

Here are the DIY's I've found. (login required for RennTech)

Okay, a bit of searching on EBay yielded this Kit for $61:

I looks like it's an Audi display, so the icons look a bit different. Still looking for an exact match to replace this display. Any ideas?

This is the company which sells the replacement lcd display, they provide a detailed how-to and it requires no soldering. Actually pretty easy.

NO SOLDERING REQUIRED. I just replaced the LCD screen in my HVAC unit. Took me about 20 minutes start to finish, including removal and reassembly in the dash. Very easy fix. Was a bit confusing since the picture of the metal cage did not look like mine. The kit was supposed to include the alcohol pads - none included. I skipped that step and it apparently didn't matter. The instructions talk about wearling cotton inspection gloves. I couldn't find any locally so I was just super careful, handling the LCD with the wrapper, washing my hands well first, etc. That didn't seem to matter. I think for $77.50 with shipping 9xauto should have thrown in the little alcohol pads and the cotton gloves. I'm very pleased with the new display - much nicer than the big sunsets I put up with since purchase of the C4S 1.5 years ago.

Just to clarify, these kits can be purchased on eBay and do not require soldering.

The more readily available Audi version has slightly different icons and says "Manual" instead of the classic "Manuell"

If you want the original factory look. I'd highly recommend this...

The guy at 914Rubber.com makes replicas of the original LCD displays. They are perfect, I have one in my car. (which is why I have a spare Audi display)
