key / ignition issue
I have been having some problems while trying to take the key out of the ignition. It has been hard to remove the key. Yesterday I removed the key and the dash said that the key was still in the ignition. Put the key back in the ignition and then took the key out and all was ok. I tried to put silicone on the key but that did not help.
Am I guessing right that I need to replace the Ignition Switch as seen here Ignition Switch replace (just the switch)
with part from NAPA
Ignition Switch
Part Number: ATM 4A0905849B

What do you guys say?
Thanks

Do it yourself but be prepared to contort yourself in the footwell. I think dealers charge upwards of $400 while the part is only $12. Your gonna need a torx set in order to take the ac vent out. Also pickup a headband flashlight as holding a torch with your teeth is no fun. Process takes about 20-30 minutes first time. Carefull with the leather dash...

I had to move the car again and again it said that the key was still there. I found if I turn the key a little hard to the left (Counter clockwise) the key comes out easy and I don't get the message.
Do you guys still think it is the electric Switch?
Sorry to ask again. Just want to make sure before I crawl my 6'4 250 lb *** under the dash.
Thanks

I am pretty good at the swearing part. I guess I really need the light. Thanks for the heads up.

Well the switch finally died. I got into her today after work and the key was hard to turn. She started and then NO ac. I knew right away that the part died. Luckily, I had purchased one waiting for this day. Got home and started to take her apart. I did not have a torx screwdriver that would fit into the hole behind the light switch, so off to auto zone I go. Get home and finish taking her apart. Got to the switch and I could not fit under the dash to work on the two set screws. Grrrr. So here come my HERO! The wife crawls under the dash and get the screw out enough to pull out the electrical part. she then puts the whole thing together but the first three screws and the light switch. What a trooper.
It was nice meeting you too mike. Hopefully I will get to see you TWS in June.

The wife's birthday is around the corner. I told her I was going to buy her tools to work on the Porsche, its better than a vacuum cleaner I got the evil eye! Now to teach her how to change the oil!
