Default Wing parts ...

Hello everyone,

I bought my '99 996 about a month and a half ago now, and I'm in the middle of a full-on love affair with the car. I don't even think I've looked at the Ducati since I got this car home; it's been that much fun.

The only think that irks me about it is the rear wing. The previous owner removed the power wing and replaced it with a fixed wing. It's OK looking, but I'd really rather have the original wing on it (or at least the option to bolt it on).

So I went scrounging on eBay and bought two OEM wings; a silver one with the motor (although the wiring harness has been fooked with, so I'm not sure if it's good or not), and a white one (same color as my car) that included the trunk tin and the louvered deck, but it's missing the motor. Seems like I should be able to put the two together, right?

Wrong. F'n Germans have to make this as absurdly complicated as possible - and of course, people don't keep 'em all together nicely when they sell them. So I've got about half of the parts that I actually need ... and nobody creates eBay listings for fiddly little Porsche wing nuts, bolts and bits.

So I'm not quite sure why I'm posting this. I only paid $300 for all of these parts (the rear trunk tin alone should be worth that, right?), and I'm probably not that far off from being able to put it together. I might have to go to the stealer for a few small bits, but I guess I'm mostly just wanting to encourage people to not take apart their rear wings into a million pieces, throw out half of them, and then sell the rest on eBay. It's irritating.

And, if anyone has a clean rear wing motor and wiring harness, and they don't want a million dollars for it, I might be interested. Especially if it hasn't been taken apart in a million pieces (with half of them lost).

Thanks for listening!

Cheers,
-- Mike

Wow, where were you when I couldn't give my stock decklid away? I ended up taking $150 for it and that was fully functional and in great shape. Post pictures of the fixed wing. If it's the aero decklid you'll make more than enough selling it to replace it with a stock lid.

What extra loose pieces do you have? I'm in need of those tin metal nuts that holds the cover for the louvres.... Pay pal ok?

Thanks guys. I'll lay everything out tonight and take some pictures, and I'll snap a few of the fixed wing on my car. I have no idea whose wing it is, but it appears to bolt in place of the louvered deck. I don't see any alterations to the trunk tin.

Any extra parts that I have will be offered for sale at very, very reasonable prices. I think the only piece that's really worth anything is the silver louvered deck that I have ... but seriously - if someone wants it, I'll make it worth their while.

ivangene: PM me with details about your motor. I'm interested.

Cheers,

So here's the parts I have. In order of the photos ...

1. The rear trunk tin, the rear louvered deck and the bottom half of the louvered deck with the bellows still attached. The bottom half still has the hinges on it. I'll definitely be keeping the white louvered deck and this (or the other) lower half of the deck.

2. The motor plate. Whoever owned it last unscrewed the motor from it, so it's just a hunk of tin now with a clipped wiring harness.

3. The motor drive that I have. The previous owner disassembled it. It all seems to be there, but I haven't tested the motor yet. Wiring harness looks good except for the two leads that go to the motor; these were badly repaired. As long as the harness is good I can solder two new clips onto the wire.

4. Silver louvered deck, the bottom half (with hinges and bellows), and a trim plate that goes over (under?) the bellows.

Missing are just about every nut, bolt and screw, and I'm sure there's a few little doo dads I'll need to scrounge up.

And lastly, a few shots of the wing that's currently on the car.

Cheers,
-- Mike

what a mess

you have about all you need... the screws and such can be had easy and cheap. Do you have a PET ? just zoom in and pick your nuts - err, hardware... if you motor is dead or dismantled to the point of being a POS let em know via PM if you want the one I have

you might make a few bucks with this mod since you have most the stuff AND a semi-desirable wing to sell.... think of what is next, we can help spend the money before you have it so there is no need to explain anything to the significant other

What's a PET?

I can certainly zip down to the local hardware store and get some stainless nuts and bolts to hold it together; no worries there. I'm more worried about the little mysterious fittings that may be missing ...

Yes, those ones I found. They're useful, but the parts breakdowns are a bit harder to read than the newly-discovered PET.

Between the two of them I'm feeling a lot more comfortable.

One question: what secures the bellows to the trunk? It looks like some sort of rivet sticking out of the bottom of the bellows.

Cheers,
