Default Proper Windshield Replacement

As some on you may know i need to Replace my windshield, my question is:-

In order to "Properly" have a New Windshield installed do i need to replace the "Sealing Frame", "Trim Frame" and "Support AKA Windshield Spacer" as well?

Item 2 -996.541.531.01 WINDSHIELD SEAL
Item 3 -996.541.541.02 TRIM FRAME
Item 4 -999.507.576.41 WINDSHIELD SPACER aka SUPPORT X2

Only Reason i ask is because i want to do this Right like they would do at the Factory, but my Porsche Service Advisor says "its not nessessary, if i want to" Please Advice

This is what happend to mine

so you just replace the Seal and not the Frame and Supports?

What Windshield did you have installed? Factory or Aftermarket like Pilkington, PPG, ETC?

The windshield on my 996 took a hit on one of the dealer's test drives, so it was replaced with factory glass before I took delivery. It was an outside vendor that did the actual removal and installation, but he did it at the Porsche dealer and had to get the glass from the parts department. If I recall correctly, they replaced the trim frame and spacer at the same time. Ericgingpa is right, you don't want to watch this process. The tools used to cut the seal between the old glass and the body of the car are aimed right at the A pillars. One slip, and you're off to the body shop.

I would contact a local autoglass vender and not go to the dealer. The dealer would hire the autoglass guy anyways. I used to work at a autoglass place and takes a skill and the tools to cut the old out and replace. Plus any bad thing that could happen during replacement is covered. I think the seal is required but the other stuff should be re-usable.

Same at my Dealer they Outsource the "Skill", apprently its the same installer that Both the Porsches in Town Use... Infact my Trusty Indy uses the same Skilled Installer, but its Half the Labour Cost compare to Dealer, my indy told me they (dealer) just charge you Double the Labour...

Dealer = $1250 CAD Installed
Indy = $1100 CAD Installed

My Indy gets the Glass from the Dealer @ Cost and charges Half the Labour via the Same Installer...

But according to my Calculations if i get the Glass from Suncoast it will be close to $800-$850 Installed

Glass @ Suncoast = $450 Plus Shipping
Glass @ Canadian Dealer = $810 plus 13% Tax... Redonkelous

The Extra Parts (Frame, Seal & Support) are $65 @ Suncoast, i might as well change em all since the glass is coming out...

Zookie

Did you have your windshield installed in Toronto?
If so, can you tell me were?
Thanks.

I believe you could fix that. I had a similar occurrence, a golf ball size hit, and for $75 plus some good tip (and 3 hours later) this expert that all the detailing shops in OC use, fixed it. Incredible. My car is at subfreezing temperatures often and is still holding on after a year. You can barely see it.
