Unhappy Found an oil leak.. need help to resolve

I got my 03 996 C2 in storage in my garage since November ( Hey it's cold where I live). Anyways snow is starting to melt outside so I figure it's a good time to give my baby a good clean and change her fluids before taking her out on the road in a couple of weeks time. I noticed when I went to change the oil that there was a rather slow oil leak that sprung underneath pretty much in the middle of the engine not far from where the oil filter is. I've attached a pic. I'd appreciate if anybody can tell me where the source of the leak is and what I can expect as a repair to resolve problem. Much appreciated.

middle of the motor - between the rear tires?

that is about where one might expect RMS/IMS leak but dont go jumping off the deep end before a full diagnosis is done because often times oil leaks from above and finds it way to the bottom...you might have to clean the area well (as high as you can) and start keeping an eye on it...if you are not the mechanical type drive into your indy and tell them... suggest they clean and have you drive till it can be traced if neccesary.

cost? who knows... could be the whole enchalada and $4k or maybe a simple seal/fill tube and a couplr bones and you are off to the races

best regards, please report findings

That's what mine looked like when it needed the RMS replaced which was covered and repaired under CPO. As others have said, clean it up, drive it and see where it's coming from.

If it's the RMS, there are other things to do while the tranny is pulled. This November I'll be doing my clutch, LN IMS, AOS, coolant, tank, RMS, etc. Not looking forward to that bill.

OK I cleaned the area up and drove for awhile to see where the leak comes from. Took a a couple of pic's. Leaks seem to be concentrated in the area just in middle between of the oil pan and rear wheels. Is it the RMS? Comments welcomed before I go see my indy.

It's the RMS leak.

well dont go getting too hasty....it's a leak in the RMS area. Still could be something up higher or maybe even the IMS seal, or a case bolt....pretty certain if that is the only spot then the next step is to take out the transmission and have a deeper look

there is a list of things to do "while you're in there" take a serious look at the list, its not cheap but will save you a lot of worries and in many cases save you from needing to go back in there any time soon

Others have offered the opinion the leak is the RMS and I can't disagree.

But I wish you had changed the oil before you put the car away in November.

Sincerely,

Macster.

Could it be a leak/sweating connection through the starter hole from the oil filler tube (or even elsewhere on the top of the engine) that might be mis-diagnosed as an RMS or IMS leak?

I dont think so, leak seems to originate towards where the engine and tranny meets... classic sign of IMS/RMS area.... tranny needs to be dropped to find out more.
