Default looking at buying a C4S 2002 47k miles for 30K

guys says its his second car hardly drives it looks really clean , but one thing I didnt like when I called him . He said he has no service records. He said he takes it to Motor Works in LA , Calif. I called the place and they said yes he has been taking his car there for years. So my question is if he has been taking his car there for years shouldnt they have in the computer system all the info. ?

Did the indy say they did not have the records, or, did he say that HE did not keep any records?

No he said he doesnt have any records (the Seller) Im a little leary but the guys at Motors works said he is very picky about who works on his cars and always thorough about any repairs , but I thought I heard bad reviews about the places he takes it , maybe I can do a search on them .

Seller didn't keep his receipts.. so.. maybe he pays and drives off. Shop may or may not have them in their cmputer depending n if they've upgraded software lately. Did the shop say they didn't have them? or simply didn't offer them up (as i would hope they wouldn't offer them up unless you were the new owner). At 47K miles, the car would have needed some oil changes.. tires.. what are you thinking they are hiding? A competant PPI should point out the obvious, current issues.

I dont think he is hiding anything , just seems strange that a original owner would not keep this info on hand
I think the guy is a doctor and seems to be in no rush to sell the car . He said its his wifes second car .
Just Leary about the way he is going about the sell. I do have the vin to look it up .

When I bought my SC I had the same issue. I asked the shop and they told me yes they serviced the car. I did not press them and did not think to offer them their hourly rate to get the records from the files or wherever. Should have at least tried as they would have been useful in understanding things that cannot be seen without opening up things.
The price is pretty reasonable if the car is in really nice shape, not perfect but really nice.

For a reference point, I just bought a 2005 C4s with 85k miles for $35k. Only a single owner and the dealership gave me a fresh CPO.

As always, get a PPI and check the wear items. $30k is a great price if it has recent brakes, recent (N-rated) tires, no RMS leakage, plenty of life left in the clutch, etc. Not such a good deal if you'll be spending $5-7k on all the above in the next year.

I just finished looking at used 996 cabs. That year with those miles with the typical options was about 32k-34k for a cab so 30 sounds a little high to me. Maybe the market is better in CA.

Run it on NADA. I found that to be the most accurate guide for 996s and is what the P dealers use for their pricing.
