Seb,

The indentation on the strut looks correct for a C4/C4S pinch bolt. The 4 wheel drive struts have a removal spring perch that is not integral to the strut. The old strut you are using for a comparison looks like a C2.

Seb -

Here is a picture of the front of a stock C4 strut.

The parts you will need are as follows:

Spring perch 996.343.073.04 (L) List $$85.78
Spring perch 996.343.508.02 (R) List $85.78
Bolt 900.378.191.09 (x2) List $5.33 @
Nut 900.377.010.09 (x2) List $.37
Stabilizer Link 996.343.073.04 (x2) List $97.75 @
Nut 996.084.445.09 (x2) List ?

You should be able to order then from a dealer. Less at Sunset. If you would like used ones I would sell you mine. Just send me a PM.

The stab link is what I included in the list. It connects the strut to the sway bar.

PET shows the number you provided, 996.343.041.20, as a shock for a C2, not a C4. the shock number for a C4S is shown as 996.343.043.26 (coupe) or 996.343.043.29 (cab).

The plate on the C2 shock is not removable. The one on a C4 shock is removable. When Bilstein says you have to reuse the stock plate I think they are assuming that you have the removable plate.

What is the part number of the shocks you got from Bilstein.

It would seem that somehow your C4S has C2 shock on the front.

my bilstein c4s front struts number is : vn3-5272, it does not come with spring plate and I confirmed with bilstein today, they told me to reuse the stock plates...
obviously, i cant with those c2 struts, like you said, ( also they are welded)

so what are my options?

Seb-

Like Doug, I have my front struts left over when I went to the X74. I have the perches, bolts and nuts. Let know if you are interested in them and we can work something out.

The PO was a clueless tool....

Seb

I would suggest that you buy Doug or Pete's parts. Both are very reputable 996 contributors. Alternately, you can go new, but for this part I would not hesitate to buy it used.

Your car had the wrong suspension parts and you need to correct it to make sure that (1) it handle properly and (2) does not accelerate wear on other parts of the car.

Thanks for the plug. I don't want to horn in since Doug offered it up first. I'll be the 2nd option if Seb doesn't go thru Doug. Just trying to pass on the RL way and want to help.

Apologies Doug... I missed that part of your thread.
