Default Long time...no post. But I'm back!

Hi all,

As many of you know I was diagnosed with a brain tumor last October, had a very successful surgery in early January, and have been in radiation/chemo for the last 4 weeks. I only have two weeks for treatment to go and if everything goes well, I get the all clear to drive on April 10.

So in the meantime, I've been polishing my 2000 C4 with a baby diaper and running it in the garage periodically. Yesterday the "check engine" light come on. I had a neighbor with a code reader hook it up and it read a failed O2 sensor. Now i'm preparing for a big blow to my wallet from the stealership.

Does anyone have an idea of how much the repair will cost?

Thanks and i'm glad to be back (almost)!
JG

welcome back.... glad that you are doing good!.... Try to record the codes and we can help you narrow it down, might even get the neighbor diy it for you. These cars are easy to work on.

Hey John, Welcome back!

O2's not that hard to swap, don't you have a good independent mechanic? Get one!

I would drive it first just to make sure it doesn't need some soot burned off, from running it in the garage.
I think that you will still need to clear the code.

Congrats on the successful treatment. Glad to hear.

Welcome back! I would second driving the car a bit after clearing the codes just to make sure the sensor has failed. It may just be dirty...

Don't rub your car too hard with that diaper- my buddy nearly wore out the paint on his 996 while he was laid up with a severely broken leg! LOL

Cheers,
Tom

VERY glad you are ok. The O2 is peanuts compared to what you have gone thru.

Welcome back, John! Great to hear your news. I'm sure April 10th can't come soon enough. God bless your continued recovery. Now get that 02 sensor fixed so you can drive her!

Hey welcome back to tinkering around with the big toy. I agree with the burn the O2 sensor off by running the car a little. Condensation might of had too many goes at coating the sensitive coating on the sensor and driving it might clean it off good enough.

High performance engines don't take well to fast no load reving so if you do play put some revs on the engine while sitting still make it a gradual climb and let gradually off of the gas instead of chopping it. Sure the perfomance engines will rev fast and do it easy but it can damage. Just make sure the engine is up to operating for a while so that everything has settle in to its happy temp all around. Doing it while driving is always best. I don't advise winding it out in 6th gear

Thanks everyone for the kind welcome back!

Well it looks like the MAF sensor is bad and needs to be replaced. So, does anyone know how much this should cost? Could I fix it myself?

Thanks for your help!
JG
