Smile Show me your Radar Detector Mount

Just got a new "windshield mount" type radar detector, and I'm getting ready to hardwire it in my 996 cab. Doing a search, I found plenty of threads on hardwiring, but limited information on mounting.

I hate the suction cup mount. Looks cheap, and is too easily visible from the outside. I'm wondering what others have done for mounting arrangments. I've seen a few aftermarket mounts, but they all seem to mount to the mirror, which is OK I suppose. I'd really like the unit to be as discreet as possible, so I'm thinking up close to the top of the windshield would be better, maybe attached under the plastic trim at the top of the windshield.

My unit is an Escort 9500ix, but the mounting would apply to any brand of RD.

What have others done?? Pics would be great . Here's what I have now:

Mine's also attached to the windshield with a suction cup mount, but I put it on the passenger's side so it won't interfere with my sun visor. I've also got mine hard wired. I'll post a pic later.

I agree with you - the suction cup mount isn't the best. I'd like to get a permanent solution, even one of the V1 mirror units.

ewww, not liking the power plug. Try tapping power from the sunroof area.

I've got mine hardwired using the sunroof power and mounted on the passenger side. It's still mounted using the suction cup mount but would prefer something that slipped under the headliner trim in the front. I like the concept of the blendmount but don't want the detector mounted that low. The best solution, at least for me, would be the unit embedded in the rearview mirror.

Yup, definatly planning on hardwiring the unit this week. That's why I'm looking to choose my mounting location first. For hardwiring, I'll probably just run a wire down the A-pillar and pick up power in the center console.

Maybe I'll try moving it to the passenger side, just above the rearview mirror, as others have done. Still need something better than the suction cups to mount it.

I see many people mount the detector up high on the windhield, but does anyone know if the window tint in this area of the windshield will interfere with the laser detection? I went with the blendmount - just got it in the mail today.

Window tint is a non-issue.

Perhaps it was easier on a Cab. I routed the line in the weatherstrip around to the center console and mounted the remote indicator on the passenger side. It's hard to see the radar detector on the passenger side of the mirror..and I frequently have the radio too loud to hear it go off. Since I'm looking at my wife's legs more often than the rearview mirror it works for me.

I've read that the radar detector should be mounted lower near the dash not toward the top of the winshield.

Here's the display. I have no idea where the units (V1 and jammer) are.
