I haven't had to pay any duty either! I'm down there every week too picking up goodies for the Pcar and gas. Today was some Lloyds floor mats and Friday my aluminum pedals should arrive.

Ugh - I wish

I just did an oil change a week ago. I'll be throwing away 8 litres of perfectly good Motul.

The price for a stock sump plate new from Pelican is $164 by the way. Add $13 for the sealing goop, and shipping is free so $177 total.

If i buy Jakes plate for $75 he's going to need at least $10 to ship it, and I still need a tube of goop which will be $20 by the time it's shipped and picked up so.....

If it's too late to cancel my order the addn'l costs is not too great. My savings would be about $65 - nothing to sneeze at (thanks Jake) but not that big of a dent.

If I cancel I was thinking about the X51 pan too. That's $250 delivered. What do you think Jake and the rest of you...worth the addn'l cost?

X51 is nice but is probably overkill on the streets. It's hard to beat $75 for Jake's.

I can answer that for Geoff - being as he's a good friend of mine and all.

That would be the famous Catherine Bell. Not sure what she's famous for, besides the obvious. To the best of my knowledge Geoff does not actually know this woman...

I consider you lucky. A puddle of oil under my car would scare the **** out of me! Out of all the things it could be, I would celebrate that it's just and oil pan!

Cheers!!

Agreed, and particularly lucky that the fix both inexpensive and mechanically easy.

Catherine Bell became famous when she starred on J.A.G. as a Marine Corps Colonel. I had the pleasure of meeting & driving her when I worked for Jaguar in 2002. At the time she owned a Porsche, 993 I think, from the picture it looks like she has upgraded. She owned a motorcycle also.

Thanks everybody, especially Jake for the low cost offer, but I've ordered the X51 pan. My resoning:

1) It may save my motor at the track one day.

2) My philosophy has always been to replace stock parts with upgraded parts.

3) Bragging rights.

I may post some photos of the fitment...but probably not if it's a night time job.

CB can sit on my fried eggs anytime...

BTW.... try to wait till the seal is dry before putting in fresh oil, I waited overnight to top it off.

For what it's worth, here's my tech article on the replacement of the sump, for future reference: http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarti...-deep_sump.htm

Jasper, I think the X51 was a good choice especially since you track the car. Good luck replacing the pan. Look at it this way, you'll be getting more dirt out with this oil change by R&R the pan.

I find it hard to believe this type of thing doesn't happen more often as the oil pan on these cars sits so low to the ground, especially on lowered cars.
