Default In-dash cupholder Install *pics*

I am doing a few off season upgrades while the 996 sits in the garage. I just installed my Lloyd mats, clear corners, now onto my in-dash cup holders. I have a quick question before I begin.. Here is my current setup in my dash.

Vents
HVAC
Radio
CD holders
Empty area (sunglasses)

Is there a way I could do this:

Vents
Cup holders
Radio
HVAC
Empty Area

I've seen people do this:

Vents
Cup Holder
Radio
Empty Area
HVAC

Is everything pretty much mix and match? It looks like the empty area has a bit more narrow shape compared to the HVAC. Thanks for the help.

Did you have to buy a different housing for the HVAC so that it fits at the bottom??

I have the stock cupholders above the radio (where your HVAC is), and honestly, I wouldn't recommend installing them there or anywhere in the center console. They are too flimsy for anything but a small coffee, and if you spill (which will happen at some point), guess where the liquid is going to end up? That's right, all over your radio and HVAC system. Its a recipe for disaster.

Get one of these instead.

Either way you are looking at a compromise. Personally I'd choose the one that doesn't have the potential to trash the electronics in my car. The choice is yours.

If you could place the cup-holders in the space where your CD trays are, that could be a good way around the potential of dripping / spilling over your electronics, BUT, that lower section of the center console is tilted back slightly (ie: not level).

Here's one more option to consider.
